As we all know 2009 was plagued with numerous issues while it also made major strides in developing the online portion of this franchise especially regarding club play. As well 2009 was also the first year their was some proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow in the form of the EASHL playoffs.
These factors led to a strong divide between what would become two very different "player mentalities" in individuals who played this game a little more than your casual gamer.

On one side there were the individuals who for whatever reason seemingly took a win at all cost attitude and would employ any shady tactic to ensure the W. While on the other side were the individuals who chose to try and play this game as realisticly as possible and earn every victory through pure skill and hard work. The divide in these camps in some instances ran very deep. The "NHL Online" Forum regulars will know that many a wordy war was fought right here as part of the aftermath of issues that leapt from the ice and over the boards.

Flash forward to 2010 where the devs have done a much better job at eliminating deficiencies that were definitely factors at contributing to dirty victories and created a new more honest level playing field. Most of the flame wars that ignited last year here on the forums have been reduced to the odd chunk of darkened charcoal. But still the passion created in some still burns bright and the memories of robbed victories will not extinguish.

It is now these memories that are those individuals who are trying to shed a less than rosy reputation biggest opponent. I have had some recent experiences with an individual who's rep is somewhat notorious, I had some brief back and forth PMs with him last year so unlike most I knew there was more to him than the general perception. I have played with and against him as both an opponent and team mate in recent otp and If not for knowing about his past I would say "Wow here's a decent guy with some wicked skill" Actually I will still say this after talking to him and him understanding the predicament of having a guy like him on our club.

2009 was a bad year in a lot of ways, and sadly even now it continues to affect certain aspects of this game. My club OLC has been directly influenced by this. To the extent where we have excluded what surely would have proven to be an asset in 2010. Like the defensive game this has become 2nd chances may be hard to come by.

To those individuals who have made a commitment to clean hockey this year I wish you all the best and hope you have no trouble becoming part of a good team. I know there are alot of you out there. Good Luck

Unfortunately there will always be those who disrespect the game and themselves. Whether it be in VS. Club or even here on the forums.

I've seen many shots that go in a high percentage of times from all over the ice. They are harder to notice but when you come across people who only try one of those shots it is easily noticeable. I can usually read those type of players and go into my "curve shot defensive mode"

It's definitely not as noticeable in club games and more so in OTP. But this year, high pressure on the puck carrier will limit how accurate these shots can be.

Smitty, you were proud of what you did in 09. Your name is tarnished and you will need a lot of time to gain any respect in the community. Feel good about yourself be proud of your stats but being ranked high means nothing if your peers do not recognize it as anything. You're just a name on a list and that will get you nowhere in life.

NHL10 still has forced players to play a cleaner style of hockey, those people who claim to play clean now only do so because key shots are harder to fine or see. These same people have it in their being to win or lift themselves at any cost and would use anything once found.
