im cant decide which one of the two to get, ive heard Live is much better but still doesnt beat 2k who has taken a step down over the previous years.
Im looking for:
a good sim
Deep dynasty or association
replay value
good gameplay (smooth, good controls, no glitches)
xtra modes

Im dont play online when it comes to b-ball so online play doenst really matter to me
Im also thinkin bout gettin the new NCAA 10 so that has a small influence as well
thanks for your input

I would say get 2k10, but I haven't played it. It got rated a 9.0 and NBA Live got rated a 8.0.

But the only rating that matters is the one that you give it.

Try renting both games and try them out before you buy.

I don't have live yet though its on the way to me.

2k is a good game, but if you havent been to their forums lately, you need to. So many issues even after the patch recently released.

I don't think ratings is a thing to go by, I think you need to play it and see if you can look past the many issues. If you're mainly an online player that may be hard to do.

I have been a 2k guy since the Dreamcast version. Prior to that...I was a Live guy. I purchased both games and because it is football season did not play either. I saw that both Live & 2k had small issues and decided I would wait until both games were patched before I played. Since EA came out with their patch 1st I decided to play Live. Well....I have not been able to put it down. I can tell Live isn't as much of a SIM as 2k...but I have had so much fun with it this week.

I finally started to play 2k today,(I downloaded its patch) and I am attempting to give it a unbiased review. I can tell it is more realistic...more of a sim...but it just doesn't seem to be as fun. Now when I say Live isn't as much of a SIM. I am not calling it NBA Jam. But it does have a sprinkle of arcade in it. Just a TAD....But wow is it fun.

I have seen the reviews stating how the commentary on Live was not that good. When I played Live this week I felt the commentary was pretty good. Then I played 2k...the commentary on that game is amazing! It really adds to the realisum. But the bottom line with the realisum in 2k is in the actual game play. That game is a big time SIM. Maybe a little to much? Maybe that is why Live seems to be more enjoyable? The game is actually addicting and the crowd on it is amazing! You might lose a little of realisum playing Live...but it is not a bad game. In fact as of today, I reluctantly choose Live over 2k. I can't believe I feel this way!!! I felt so strongly about it...I decided to come on this site and share my feeling. I guess I like a little arcade with my b-ball?

I'll be back in a few days with an update...i want to give 2k an honest effort before I make my final review of both games.

Original Poster your problem is simple it's 2K10 PC. If you were an online player I'd suggest NBA LIVE 10. LIVE has few bells and whistles this year like 2k has in spades this year tons of stuff to do especially. pc 2k10 is 19.99 or less.

I'll say since the 2K patch, it's definitely better. I'm still having framerate issues on broadcast view and when I play a friend locally. Something goes on in the 3rd qtr every time. I can change the camera view to 2K and it seems to help with the framerate a bit. Online is my big issue with 2K, network disconnections and I've yet to get a teamup game to start without it having a network error.

CHARGERBOY....we got similar tastes in b-ball games. The choice is obvious. 2k is real sim basketball. I bet you would love to watch CPU vs CPU during Association mode. 2k got it. CASE CLOSED.

Truthfully, both have their issues. I don't pay a lot online, so I can't address that. But offline, the AI really isn't great for either game.

I bought both and have been going back and forth on which to keep...sometimes thinking I will trade them both in.

The AI cheats, as usual, and looks pretty ridiculous doing it. In both games, you pass to guys standing out of bounds. In both games, you get phantom blocks and steals in the paint. In 2K, it's pretty easy to find someone under the hoop for an easy layup...but damn near impossible to get an open look outside. In Live, I actually think the AI defense is a little more realistic. My shooting pctg. is closer to real life with Live. In 2K, the friggin AI shoots 80% from the field all game. At least the Live AI guys miss once in a while. However, I have seen times where the glitches kick in and my guy is standing over near the bench and won't come on the floor to guard anyone. So I'm at a 5 vs. 4 disadvantage for their possession. Pretty crazy.

2K's framerate sucks. Live is much smoother. And I'm sorry, I know I'm in the minority on this, but I LOATHE Clark Kellogg doing NBA games. It just doesn't sound right. He's a college guy. Albert and Kerr might be boring and not have the same intelligent banter, but I'll still take the real NBA duo on Live.

The in-game menus for Live stink. Man, getting a sub in is an act of congress. It's damn near imposible. 2K really does have simpler, easy to us menus. The playcalling is easier on 2k too. The plays on Live are ok, but seem to rarely work or even get run. I'll run a play and guys will just stand around sometimes.

Right now, because of the Dynamic Season, I am leaning toward Live more. I like the idea of keeping the real standings and real stats throughout the year and maybe just changing a few of my Sixers losses into wins! The Dynamic Season is more to my liking than the My Player mode on 2K. I don't have time for another mode. I just want one good one. Dynamic Season is exactly what I've wanted since they started the live rosters/stats thing. You could never have a season with it before. Now you can. 2K's NBA Today is nice, but you can't go through a season and keep your wins and losses. You can just play the games of that day and they don't count toward anything. Bummer, IMO.

I'm playing the all-star level on Live right now with the sliders slightly tweaked in a few categories...and that seems to be the best, most realistic gameplay I can find on either game. Stats seem realistic, movements are realistic...and I've firgured out a way to play solid D. I hope to be at the Superstar level soon. So I guess I'm having fun with Live. Things could change. Tomorrow I might want to fling it out the window and keep 2K. But right now, that's where I'm at.

BTW...on a side note - I have always bought the 2K NBA game. Every year. It was never close. So congrats to EA for an improvement. There's still more improving to be done, but I'm sure they know that. This was a step in the right direction.
