Hey everyone,
I just decided to start playing bf2 again but it keeps crashing to desktop
Im running:
amd turionx2 2ghz on windows vista
3 gb ram
nvidia 8200m G
I installed vanilla bf2, it crashed to desktop whenever i pressed join server, in singleplayer it would ctd after everything was loaded but still verifying
I then tried patching it to 1.41, but for some reason bf2 wouldnt update and was stuck at version 1.1.2
I completely/manually uninstalled it
Reinstalled again, vanilla still wouldnt play (same ctd problems)
patched it to 1.41, this time it patched correctly (still ctd when i try to play mp and sp)
patched to 1.5, patched correctly, ctd when i press join server on multiplayer, ctd on singleplayer when everything is loaded but still verifying
uac is disabled
tried running as admin
visual themes/desktop composition both disabled
i tried the manual punkbuster update
compatibility is set correctly
all drivers are up to date
this is driving me nuts!
i dont ever remember having this much trouble playing on my old pc
any help would be appreciated
thanks
EDIT: i should also add that whenever i click the audio tab in options, it will crash to desktop

When you uninstalled did you manually remove the folder from the installshield folder? I've noticed that unless you remove that folder BF2 will always crash no matter how many times you uninstall and re-install.
For full removal and installation instructions go to my thread below and follow the instructions on page 2:

Hope that helps,

I recall reading about someone that had the same problem about crashing when clicking on the audio tab. I don't remember exactly, but I think he went to device manager, sound and video controllers, and disabled high definition audio or something like that.
