I remember night tracks from the NFS Hot Pursuit II days... anyhow for those of you who haven't seen some bloke over at nogripracing.com found how to mod the time of day on the tracks in SHIFT. See thread here: http://www.nogripracing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=167519

Headlights don't actually cast light on the road but maybe this could be modded in the future, or even better, could be a new feature in some upcoming patch... optimistic, I know.

Anyhow I don't know about you guys but I would like to voice my support for this feature. I'd love to see it added and think it could be a ton of fun!

IMO, night racing is just too cool to leave out of any modern racing sim.

That should be put in with the update containing team races and the new cars. Night and wet races would further test racing abilities with the limited visibility and slick tracks.

I'm glad to see there is some interest in it. Hopefully this will spur further development and addition of this feature into the game. I hope each car has its OEM headlight output and pattern though... meaning halogens vs. HID's and reflectors vs. projector light patterns. Although this would only be meaningful if they allowed headlamp upgrades like back in the NFS Underground series.

No problem with player mods allowing this. But I'm concerned about processor power for the lights slowing down consoles and causing performance issues. Perhaps with less cars on the track for "safety" reasons?

In my experience, night has always performed better than day on newer games. Now that just about all games have dynamic, real-time lighting, the less light that has to be drawn and shadows cast and such, the less work the GPU has to do. I've noticed this in many modern games... I can't imagine light being cast from headlamps (half of which would be broken after a crash right?) would require any more processing power than full daylight without headlamps. I'm not an expert on the matter, but just recalling my experiences with night vs. day in games.

Back in the good'ol days light and shadows had to be taken care of on the map, level, or track itself... so the processing was already done so it didn't make a performance difference, you were still processing the same amount of data.
