EA GOES TO WAR WITH ALL-New ‘Medal of Honor’

EA Reinvents Franchise with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting

LOS ANGELES, California
December 2, 2009 – Medal of Honor™ returns to the front lines, this time in today’s war. For the first time in the franchise’s 10-year history, Medal of Honor is leaving the WWII theatre and putting players in war-torn Afghanistan. Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today revealed that in 2010, Medal of Honor, an all-new first-person shooter game, will introduce the Tier 1 Operator: a relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle. The development team has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the U.S. Special Operations Community since the earliest stages of development to create the most authentic modern war experience. Medal of Honor depicts modern military operations through the lens of a small band of fictional characters. Inspired by real events, Medal of Honor reveals the mission of today’s most elite American soldier – his will, his mindset and his uncompromising professionalism.

Medal of Honor is being built with a best-in-class single-player campaign. The Medal of Honor development team at EALA has been hand-selected by the studio leadership of General Manager Sean Decker, Executive Producer Greg Goodrich and Senior Creative Director Rich Farrelly. To compliment the single-player experience, EALA has enlisted the multiplayer expertise at EA DICE. This team will develop the multiplayer experience of Medal of Honor. These two studios are coming together to deliver a world-class Medal of Honor that is poised to re-set the franchise for a new generation.

“When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today’s war. The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war.” said Greg Goodrich, Executive Producer, Medal of Honor. “We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience.”

“EA has always been an advocate for telling the soldiers’ story. The new Medal of Honor follows that tradition. We felt it was important to tell the story of today’s war and today’s elite soldiers via today’s most relevant medium – videogames,” said Sean Decker, VP and General Manager of EALA. “We are so proud to bring together two powerhouse development teams to make this game a reality; EA Los Angeles and EA DICE. Medal of Honor promises to be an unforgettable entry in the modern shooter genre.”

w00t first page ...

nah Im really happy to see that EA is not doing the MP for this even though Im not a big fan of MP EA's is the worst but I am dissapointed to see that Dice is doing it because that means not everyone there is focusing on Mirror's Edge 2 and that is way more important than another watered down shooter game hitting the market

I hope that this game is going to be good, not like the past 10 millions moh that were made, pacific assault was the first insult on a line of horrendus MoH shooters.

Good luck trying to copy Infinity Ward, at least now (i really hope so) you learned that not giving creative freedom to the staff is not the best thing to do when you are trying to have decent games.

Good luck with Medal of Honor: Modern Warfare, or is going to be Call of Honor MW xD

God I was hoping EA would toss it's hat back into the ring after the latest travesty that has become CoD. EA can have NO better time to strike than right NOW to take back the multiplayer FPS crown.

I'm with RudeDog, and don't let the multiplayer get too far along before bringing in the people who know what a successful multiplayer game looks, feels, and acts like. I am desperate for an infantry-based PC war game to take CoD2's place as the best there ever was...

I still remember the shock we all felt at the summit at Fort Bragg (which was otherwise an AWESOME trip). But here is to new beginnings, and a hope for success!

I don't think anyone truly understands the scope of this game. Since MoH is now leaving the World War II setting for Afghanistan I think that move gives EA Los Angeles more room to work on a story and characters, since your playing a Tier 1 Operator I assume you are a Covert Spec Ops soldier so assuming you fight in a squad EA LA can really create interesting characters who have distinctly impressive backgrounds.

But what has really interested me with this Announcement is the Technology EA DICE and Los Angeles will employ. It will most likely be the Next-Gen Frostbite engine which will most definitely receive a complete Overhaul.

As for the Multiplayer Digital Illusions CE will handle that and judging on what they have done with BF: BC and BF: 1943's Multiplayer which was truly professional and stunning I have no worries.

As long as the missions are like the first games (ps1 ones). I am not particularly keen on Modern Warfare but if it's like the first, all alone blowing up things and sabotage I am fine.

Oh, and don't make a ridiculous story line, where you get betrayed by your friend who killed two of your others friends then you kill him and are on the run. Thanks.

You don't play, you volunteer!
