i've just read the discussion about cheaters which is now closed. i don't want to create a new debate about 3rd party controllers, multiple profiles, impossible scores of -35 etc.
after being online since the first TW version, i've never shot such a score but know it's real with lots of practise and experience - so let's face it jimbo - they're just better (-:
however there is one situation where i seriously ask myself if there is a cheat. on Pebble Beach #1 when you drive off to the right over the trees, they often get cought. you see the ball dropping straight down into the trees. at the next shot - schwupp they quickly change position to the side of the fairway without any trees in the way. i've seen this phenomena on all courses but only by a few players. sometimes when they're off the green - they push the magic button and on they are. but not always - it seems to be uncontrollable. sometimes they move to their disadvantage. but always around 20-30ft. strangely it only happends after a bad shot when it could come in handy. never after a great shot next to the flag. i chatted a few guys and they where quite secreative and denyed everything. however - very strange.. anybody know anything about this??
and it's NOT the case of a bad connection and cpu limitation, where the hardware can't produce the picture on time. that's different - there the line of the ball matches where it should be lying for the next shot.. i had those as well in the old days (-:

This is probably a feature of the game as opposed to a "magic button." I have had two occurences of this recently. Playing Firestone last week on hole #3, expert pin on the front right my wedge backs up past the pin and down the front of the green and stops in the rough just short of the water. I am expecting to have to pitch the ball back up to the green from the rough but when I get to the shot the ball is now on the green. It's not an easy putt and I think I would have preferred the pitch, but the game just moved the ball onto the green all by itself, I didn't do anything.
A second example happened a couple nights ago during the Extreme Live Tournament at Wentworth. On hole #7 I drive the ball (with a tailwind) through the green at the front/left and it rolls into the rough and looks like it's going to be behind a tree. I'm thinking that I will have to pitch it onto the green but to the upper right of the green (pin is upper left) which will leave me a difficult two-putt for par. Instead my next shot is on the green and I'm putting for eagle. Two-putt from there for a birdie!
I have also seen this on Bay Hill #13 (the short par-4) having the ball roll back toward the water from the front-left of the green, stopping in the rough between the green and water, and then having the ball placed on the green for me.
I've never seen it on Pebble #1 but wouldn't doubt that some places it might do this as well.

Another thing to be mindful of is if you're playing Simul play then the tracers aren't a true representation of where another player really is.Most often their ball is somewhere beside the end of that tracer. It's usually short of where the end is.
So if you see the tracer go off the back of the green there's a chance they're really on.If you see them back up 20 feet short it's a good chance they're close to the hole.
The other thing is at times the game just moves the ball randomly.Either from the rough to the fairway, out from under trees and other weird things.
Why?Who knows.

I'm not sure this is the same but last night I was what looked like a foot outside a trap but once I got there I was 10 feet in the middle of the trap. I hate that magic button LOL

Yep,that's the same.
You'll see a ball either just outside or on the slope of a bunker and next thing the ball is on the flat bottom.

I would love to see it when I hit a rocket into the upslope lip of a bunker that it gets buried 80% deep 4 inches from the lip. I have this happen on the golf course in RL so why not in the game? I love the open face shot smacking my club into the wall of the bunker an inch below the ball and watching it go nearly straight up in the air.

Exactly. That's what happens mostly.A ball hits into the face and instead of burying there it just magically rolls into the bottom.Even though when the shot ended the ball was on the slope.

Woody Lightspeed here. YES Cheating is what video games will always be about. Its too bad. The only way to fix it is to have no Leaderboards of any kind. YA that's going to happen. EA is the worst company, They try to make it so people fight, it SELLS games. Any company that does not drop a Bum like Tiger could care less about anything but Money.
Bring it on,
WLS

WoodyLIghtSpeed is a jerk. EA Sports has dedicated thousands of developer man hours just so they could offer a very cost effective (IMO) format for us to enjoy an all-time favorite. They shouldn't receive the negative criticism that this jerk is whining about. Thanks again, EA Sports for having me!

Thanks for the input and some good coments. i'm now convinced its a bug not a feature. lousy programming - fits when you think how fast EA produces the games these days. they would rather release a service pack then evey year reinvent the wheel.
remember the eastereggs in microsofts excel? where you're suddenly in a flight simulator if you know the keys to hold. programmers are a special kind of people and i wouldn't be surprised if they still do these things today. i guess we'll never know for sure - lol
