I created a player last week and kept records of how I was improving after each round/drills. Once or twice i noticed something didn't look right. So tonight I looked at my skill levels (7.5, 8.5, 7.6, 7.4 avg 7.7) then played TP Sawgrass front 9 and shot a -6 (1 eagle, 4 birdies, rest pars) then the game shows how I did?? 7.0, 8.3, 6.7, 7.2 avg 7.3 My skills went down. Now I don't know about you but they way I see it is after shooting a -6 on 9 holes my skill levels should have gone up not down. Did the programmers skip math classes in school or what??? Can anyone shed some light on this or am I to shoot some bogey's around the vancouver office since it doesn't matter what I shoot at.

3 possibilities going on here.

1. After the round prior to your Sawgrass round you did some Hank Haney skill building drills. These drills only temporarily up your stats for the next round and then are removed. So your Sawgrass round could have actually bumped your stats up a little but after removing the temporary Haney stat boosts then the net effect was a decrease. (Solution: Don't do the Hank Haney drills and you'll only see actual performance changes in stats).

2. The skill levels are only based on your last 20 or so shots for each category. So if your oldest shot (say a 400 yard drive) used in your stat numbers falls off and is replaced by your latest drive (say 350 yards) you could see a net effect of a decrease. (Solution: patience. Eventually those poor shots which are lowering your average will also fall off and if you've been consistence in each category over your last 20 shots your stats will go up)

3. Be sure to look at the details of all 4 stat categories. They are not based on whether you birdie or eagle a hole but how you play. Hit your drives long and in the fairway, get on greens in regulation, shots within 100 yards need to be close to the pin, make your putts. That will boost your stats, not birdies and eagles.

Don't get too wrapped up in the stats, other than power, they really don't have a big effect on how well you play (as evident by your Sawgrass round) and if they do bother you work on gaining the $5 million in earnings so you can buy a max stat suit and be done with it.

Good luck

Thanks for the answers

1) I do the Hank Haney every now and then so maybe thats what I'm seeing, but a drop of 1.1 on my short game seems a bit harsh

2) It would have been nice if this tidbit was mentioned in the manual, 1 bad shot in a round can hurt you even if you recover on next shot. In the challenges ie: 2nd one tiger puts it on the green long back left and I stick in within a foot and fail the challenge seems whacked.

3) I've eagled the 2nd at sawgrass 3 times, that's a par 5, that's 1 drive, 1 onto the green, 1 putt, the drive's are under 300 but obviously accuracy , short game and putting are spot on for this hole but those stats going down.

New question, I've bought a new driver (mp900 range is not increasing), new irons (intermediate) I am supposed to tune these to get more out of them? becasue it would be nive to at least hit a consistent 300-310.

Never do the drills...The only time i did them was when my cag was at all 11 . somethings to max him out for online. If i play offline i wear a stat suit.

It gets repetitive doing the drills and the game becomes more enjoyable with a max stats suit as they dont allow drops. As far as how to increase.....certain things help. #1 on Doral is the short par 5 after your tee shot you have around 180yds (from memory) which is an easy shot to get on for eagle, however getting on for eagle does not boost any stat. If you lay up your second shot just off the green, pitch it close and sink the putt for birdie it boosts your stats. Strange how a birdie is better than an eagle in this case but thats how it is the entire game. When building up stats its very difficult to be consistant due to the ever changing stats.

As far as club tuning go to the club tuner and play with it. You want the max power you can get while still staying accurate which is much more important. Workability for me personally is always at the minimum as i trade that for power with the same sweet spot.

One tip is to build your character up in the tournaments and then go to the tiger challenges as they are much easier with a higher leveled golfer.

Tks

So the not so REALISTIC targets are:

1) Birdie all par 4 & 5 holes (1 putt only)
2) Tune for power not accuracy

Now the only thing left for me is how do drive more than 100% so I can drive 400 yards or more since all par 5 holes have no dog legs etc.. What's with that? the question is real though, I can't seem to ever hit more tham 100%. I'm missing someting here

the 400 yd drive is easy. just max the power in club tuner, play amateur, and play some windy rounds on wolf creek or any downhill par 5. when you get a tail wind try and hit 122%

or, if you just play it will happen anyway.

Accuracy is the key here, FIR's, GIR's, closeness to hole, these are the things that will increase your skill attributes. As for driving, fairway speed has a lot to do with how far your can hit the ball at 100% power but wind and elevation will effect actual shot distance. You need to use the boost button to shoot more than 100% power but if you use the boost every time the skill attributes will log these shots and then the times you don't need to use the boost or you are playing in up hill or windy conditions your power attribute will drop as your shot distance avg drops. Read the explanations for all off the skill attributes and they will tell you what each one is looking for to help you increase them.

That is SO cheating! At least from my point of view. takes teh fun out of the game if you ask me - why even play! Just give yourself a score and be proud.

its a video game bro. 400 yd drives really just dont happen in real life. you asked, i told. for me i just played the game and i got the 400 yd drive within a few days, but i played a lot. i got it in normal gameplay in the career mode.

i guess you would say hitting it over the water on bay hill 6 is cheating too? the nice part about the game is that you can play it in many ways. whichever is you to your liking. how did you get the 'use precision putter with no preview 30 ft putt?' im guessing under your logic you cheated.

Go look at the longest drive leaderboard, and you will see about 100 or more cheaters then.

OH - I agree on the amount of cheaters. I'm the opposite and I need to work to get better - I'm the kind of guy that has never used a cheat code for any game. If someone wants to that's fine! My comment was more of a LOL thing and accusing or flaming!!

i dont know how my explanation on how to get some dumb trophy was a cheat code? you can do what i said or use a cart path or just wait for a huge tail wind, or just play, you will get the 400yd thing if you are any good anyway. i dont see how any of those are cheating. but, whatever, sorry for trying to help. i'll keep my mouth shut.

lav01 - dude - stop being defensive - I never said anything was a cheat code! I was making a half hearted joke

I was hoping when I said "My comment was more of a LOL thing and accusing or flaming!!" you would have read that part.
