In every basketball game out there, you can give the ball to a player and force him into a scoring position. You can dribble back and forth around the perimeter until your opponent slips up. You can call isolation and try cross-over moves until you get free. You can call a pick & roll and charge into the paint. There are infinite strategies that a user can rely on to get a player a good shot. Why isn't that type of focussed effort carried over to defense???

In real life, if a good/decent defensive player see that an opponent is on fire, they focus in on the person and put together good defensive possessions to make them work for the points. Kobe will deny the pass, FORCE A PLAYER TO HIS OFF-HAND, contest rather than go for the block, etc in order to stop a scorer like Paul Pierce from getting another easy basket. Why isn't this ability in the game? Notice that I didn't say "why isn't this STRATEGY in the game." The strategy is there. It's in my head. I try to use it all of the time. However, my player is too busy flopping for the ball instead of denying the pass and intercepting it, too busy being turned in the wrong direction to lock onto his man and too busy being sucked into a fouling animation to contest the shot rather than going for a block.

I'm no expert but I THINK that defense is a pretty big part of basketball (regardless of whether people like playing defense or not) and it should be shown some respect in any game that claims to be shooting for authenticity. Any ideas on how defense will be dealt with (if at all different from this year) in Live 11? I'd like to see defensive strategies being rewarded rather than just being in the game for the sake of being in the game. The idea of left-hand vs right-hand ball-handling skills would be a cool add-in along with some of the other things that I mentioned.

defense in this game is good! you guys just need to get ur stick skills up. speed up ur hand motion or something. Because timing has to be there to get it done. I'm speaking on superstar level play.

You're talking about player vs cpu.....You don't need much defense to shut down the cpu because it's too stupid to use players like Kobe consistently or to be aggressive against the defense.

If you're talking about playing against the cpu, then your comment doesn't add anything. Defending the cpu hasn't become any more difficult than it was 5 years ago in my opinion. Aside from an occasional fluke, the cpu can be shut down almost at will.

Playing against another living, breathing user is completely different. As it stands, double teams mean absolutely nothing and timing is made meaningless by the game yanking defenders out of position when the opposition crosses over or spins.

In this game, you don't have to be "hot" or a superstar to score 30+ points in 5 minute quarters. All that you have to be is on the court. There are too many instances of control being taken away from the user on defense. As I said, often times, when I try to simply stay in front of my assignment, I'm sucked into a fouling animation because he decided to take a shot. What does it say about the ability to play defense when the offensive player can MAKE you foul him and you have no control over whether you stay on the ground or not? What does it say about defense when a player swipes for a steal instead of catching the ball that's flying in front of his chest? What does it say about defense when a player can't stay in front of a ball-handler who simply runs to the side and then switches back to running in the opposite direction?

If you think that your defense is soooo great and you're an XBOX 360 user, then give me your gamer tag. I don't play Live 10 much these days because of the game-breaking issues but I'll sign in to see if you can contain me when I'm dead-set on scoring....and I won't use the Cavs.

im with vince on this one!! i mean D on this game is jus sumwhat close to ridiculous! i mean time after time it seems to be that you get PUNISHED for playin good D on people. there are times where you as a defender, has the offense BEAT. u D them up so good that in their 24seconds wit tha ball, they cant find a "good shot" and i put good shot in quotes cuz on this game a good shot is doin tha spin move 5 times in tha paint and pushin square(ps3). but when u have the offense beat on D, the shot that they finally do get up will be one that made you as a defender get sucked into an animation (if they are driving to the lane) and one of 3 things will happen. 1. they will do the double pump layup and miss, and then get the off- board and get a put back afeter about 2 more off- boards in a row. 2. they will get bailed out by havin a foul called (which happens all tha time wit the "superstars" on tha game like wade, lebron, kobe, etc. 3. they will get foulded and still make the double pump layup when there is no possible way they should have made dat ridiculous shot. the offense gets bailed out on this gae as a reward for running around the court all day long trying to find a shot on a set of good defense!

and jus a side note.. this off-ball thing..... its good, but it needs to be fixed!! seriously. cuz since dudes cant jack up 3's anymore, they now have gone to usin off-ball and there is no possible way to defend it on sumbody who has gotten good at it! yes of course u can beat tha D wit good cuts and sharp passes and all of that, but there are way too many times where this off-ball is rewarded when you have players in position to stop what is developing. and the missed easy layups and missed dunks in so alled "traffic" lol lets get real people. i really dont think people like shaq is gonna miss a dunk cuz iverson jumped up and showed his face on the other side of tha rim. i mean its a good concept but the way its workin, is jus not even close to realistic at all!!

honestly no.. if i could i would have no problems with the game. as long as i can stop them then im good to go.

actually i have my times when i can stop them but then there's moments when i cant make shots, the comp just ends up fast breaking on all my misses.. in half court defense though yes, i can stop them.
