I've noticed lately that people are using the interference exploit alot more often. I'm talking about when you're going to pass to someone for a one timer, even before or during the pass the computer or opposing player takes out the intended receiver so they can't one time it. Thats total interference but it totally fine in this game. This needs to be fixed ASAP please

They let us hit in an invisible box from the crease to the top of the faceooff circles (slot area) You can only hit the opposing team players without the puck in that one area and only if the opposing team has the puck.
They gave us this since we really do not have a way to tie someone up or push them out of the way.
The defenders need something, otherwise it would be cross crease all day long.

Depends when and where this one-timer is taking place. If it is from infront of the net (as in a 2 on 1 play), then it is fine IMO since you don't have the option to tied up the player's stick like you'd normally do in real life. For the time being it is a decent compromise until we have that functionality.
Interference is called however when you hit the guy too soon or too far away from the slot/net.

but its not called ALL the time..the last update that come out for 09 NAILED it. Everytime you body checked a guy without the puck (the most common being a race for the puck and one guy hits you) it became an automatic penalty, everytime. At first there were penalties left and right, but everyone learnt, and the game was much for it, it forced them to use body position, angles, loose puck poke checkes and sometimes the player who was faster (speed rating) and less tired (reward given to those who control their line changes) won the battle. Now it seems random as to weather or not interference is called and thats annoying when you have someone beat for a loose puck and they check you away from it

If this was the only place it was happening it wouldnt be an issue. Im getting hit all over the ice and not receiving calls, especially away from the play in transition right around the corners of the ice. Seriously, where are the penalties? I constantly see the other team trip, interfere, high stick and slash the other team the whole time and never recieve an extra penalty.

i dont know if i can agree with you, like one of the above post mentioned, there is only a certain area that you can hit someone when their team has the puck, and it make sense, if they told that out, you would probably list another issue that they need to fix. - "needs body contact to protect front of net"...etc
anyways, in other areas, you can "sometimes" get away with just a bump, but not a check.

Missed calls are apart of hockey for better or worse. It doesn't happen on a consistent basis in NHL 10, not enough to get all up in arms about it anyways.

I'd like them to fix this too. Several times per game I get hit without the puck, I'm nowhere near the crease/slot, and nothing gets called. It's really irritating.

yeah it does, and I know plenty of places I can hit guys far away from the play and not get a penalty. Its not missed calls, its blatant interference. Also, like I said, its almost impossible to pick up a penalty when you are on a delayed penalty, I can spam the stick lift the entire time and Ive never got a second penalty, meanwhile 1/2 the other team is holding their face with their stick in mid-air, its stupid. Also, I hardly ever see penalties during an after whistle scrum, which is even WORSE because you can be (slightly) intimidated after the whistle. Put the interference and chance of a second/third/forth penalty back in. if the other team is stupid enough to keep committing penalties on a delayed penalty too bad!!! Im tired of the wrose player constantly being rewarded with this game trying to auto balance itself. Have different skill levels for otp, or at the least different settings like sim/arcade.

When I write, I speak from the VS perspective (more my area) and not OTP. Due to VS being more 1 on 1 based and the AI controlling alot of what goes on, what I wrote was correct. In terms of OTP there are alot of abuses that occur such as the stick lift w/o the puck at faceoff or a cheap check at faceoff.... etc.
To me, constant abuses like these going on all game long should be called with more regularity, but not as much when it is a rare occurrence in game (if you're lucky enough to find people mature enough not to be A-holes that is).
Penalties in general for OTP are very lax and I believe was done to add to the 'fun' factor EA wants to deliver (this along with the clown gear ). There should be 2 distinct OTP's to play, arcade style where the kids can goof off and be morons if they want and sim style where more serious gameplay is to be had with stricter enforcement of the rules. The current in-between compromise they got going on now hurts all sides.

You're absolutely right, the 09 update completely took care of the interference problem. When I first played 10, I was very surprised to see interference problem come back. They should have an option for it, let us decide if we want strict interference call or not so strict

Meh, the update also caused there to be a lot of random penalties when clearing out the front of the net which wasn't supposed to happen. Redshirt even told me personally it was a flaw in the code that they couldn't fix. There would either be very few interference calls and hardly any penalties for hitting in front of the net or there would be a lot more interference penalties and a lot more penalties for hitting in front of the net. I'll never understand why that's the way that it is but at least it's toned down a lot from last year. You'll still get the occasional penalty for being aggressive in front of your net but I suppose even that is somewhat realistic. It was brutal last year, though. Teams with aggressive d-men would get multiple penalties a game trying to be physical in front of their net which far too often decided a close game.
Personally I think the interference system right now is close to perfect. I do wish they told people in the manual to hold vision control in the offensive zone though so those interference penalties would be a thing of the past.
