Thanks to everyone who has helped us track down the problems that have been heavily reported on these forums.

I'm pleased to be able to update you on the patch that will be forthcoming early next week.

Mulit-Core CPU's
We've now located and fixed the problem that players were reporting where the game would crash on Car Select, Map Screen, Loading screen or just at the start of an event. Interestingly we're actually intrigued that the game works at all after our investigations with the problem actually manifesting itself in code that we shipped as part of Burnout Paradise.

We've also taken the opportunity to address a couple of other reported problems.

Missing Rain / Snow and Corona effects
This have been fixed

CL Eye Driver crashing the game on startup
Fixed.

Corrupted Dreamshots in non 16:9 aspect ratios
Fixed.

We've also added D-BOX motion chair support.

Once again, thanks to all the players who helped us track down and identify the problem. We'll detail exactly when the patch will be available as soon as we can. As I said, it's likely to be early next week, but we need to go through the testing and certification systems that are in place prior to release.

Superb news.

I suspect that the missing AA issue is a design choice that came about because the engine uses deferred rendering (or lighting) which is incompatible with MSAA under DirectX 9 on the PC. The consoles use their own graphics library which is probably why they have AA albeit basic 2xMSAA at best and only on the cars it seems. Disappointing for us PC gamers really when you consider that those machines are six years old technology wise and our graphics cards are many times more powerful and support DX10/11.

I know NVIDIA are aware of this AA "issue" as they consider it a bug and the implication I got was that they'll add support for the game in a later driver so it can be forced via the control panel. AMD will no doubt do the same for their cards too (AA can currently be forced for the cars if you use the 10.10e drivers apparently or, if you have an HD 5000/6000 card you can use MLAA). Not quite as tidy as having an in-game AA but it's better than nothing.

Fantastic news Matt, why this wasn't done pre-release I guess we'll never know. I hope early next week means... tuesday. I'm very eager to play this game!

Hope it works better than your first effort . . . the non working game.

Fantastic idea! Why didn't you try that BEFORE RELEASING the game?

Wait a minute . . . is that the same "testing and certification systems" that allowed you to release this game?

GOD help us!

Hi Matt,

Thanks very much for providing an official update to the issue direct from Criterion, it's encouraging to know you are committed to working on fixing the PC version.

Please could you also consider the following issues:

1) Car Engine sounds are very low in volume, can something be done to alter the mix ? I am running a 2.1 speaker system, have tried both using my Audigy 4 card and the audio chipset on my motherboard, and problem presents in both. The PS3 version I have has much louder/clearer engine sounds in comparison.

2) The game engine does not run as smooth on ATi hardware (particularly 48xx series) as it does on NVidia. I asked a guy on another forum to run a fraps test with his NVidia 250, and he had an average fps of 60 (with a small drop to 52fps). I find that my framerate can be all over the place in comparison to his results, i will very often see drops to around 35fps etc. (triple buffering doesn't help this situation).

I wish to take this opportunity to thank Criterion for creating this game, it's exactly what I hoped for, I was disappointed with the demo, but glad I decided to get the full game as taken as a whole the game is fantastic.

Just to note I run the following spec : E6420 (dual core) @ 3.20Ghz, 4 GB, ATI 4870, Vista x64. I would expect the 4870 to be quicker than an NVidia 250, or at the very least on par with it.

Cheers,

Si.

Just to be clear. The multi-core issue affected around 0.15% of the audience.

Well... Least we know the patch exists and we're not being shafted.

I didn't have the multicore issue to begin with, but it's good to see bug fixes being rolled out. I still would like a custom-single-player game mode though.

And we really do need to have more settings available to tailor our game, like the aforementioned volume control (engine sounds are really too weak) and adding AA would be a real buff.

Oh, yeah, could we get 1920x1080 dreamshots? 1280x720 is a very low resolution compared to what most PCers have today.

Whiteout, invisible... Whiteout, inaudible... Whiteout, I do not know... only you can see.

Hi,

I dont see anything about fixing problems with the steering wheels on PC and Playstation 3.
When can I play the game on my Logitech Driving Force GT wheel?
