I'll never understand why MT is comparing cars in such different classes. They do this constantly, apparently they're bored. How about comparing cars that actually compete against one another for sales?

what? ... first, the GTR is the best car in the world without discussion, and second, why always MotorTrend compare cars that have nothing to do with one another? Why?

They nicked the Idea from Top Gear Magazine (UK). they ran a comparison test as both cars are lightweight "supercar" versions of heavy GT Cars (the GT-R after all, is based on the Infiniti G-37 Coupe) to see wether sheer performance (GT-R) can rival Sheer Performance and Sheer Class (Conti-SS) its just MT, being American, has drag raced it as they lack two things that define the TG test. Welsh mountain Roads, and the White Suited One.
surely a more suitable comparison race would have been to pit the latest V8 Muscle machines one on one on the Beartooth Pass, Charger SRT/8 Manual, VS Shelby Mustang GT-500 Super Snake, VS Camaro SS Manual. and then, in another feature, Do the same test, but with the '71 Challenger 426 HEMI, the '68 GT-500 King of the Road, and the '69 Camaro SS (also all with stick shift transmissions). that would be far more logical, and far more interesting to see how the muscle machines of today relate to there illustrious ancestors.
The GT-R is a very, very good car indeed, but i wouldn't call it the best car in the world, for a start off, the paddleshift transmission is very jerky (and real drivers cars have a stick shift anyway, so the GT-R is automatically ommited from the ultimate cars list due to its lack of one) the engine is too muted (what happened to the turbo nutter "growl, whoosh, BANG!" of the RB26DETT?) and its got too many drivers aids.
my bet for the ULTIMATE supercar is the Aston Martin V12 Vantage.
its got the 6 litre V-12 from 007's DB-S Shoehorned into the body of the V-8 Vantage, it's faster than the old Vanquish!, has a Stick shift, and the only traction controll is the drivers right Mohano Blahnik Shoe.
and well, Just look at it! makes the GT-R look like a frog thats just had a nasty experience in a tokyo hotel tube!
gorgeous aint she?

I think the comparo is a pretty good one. While the Bentley has more power it also has more mass. Otherwise they both have two doors, a backseat that couldn't hold a mid-sized Anaconda, powerful engines, all wheel drive, and are generally unobtainable to the general public.
As for the Aston Martin V12 Vantage? Give it better venting on the hood and it's definitely in the running for best supercar (although the One-77 certainly makes itself a good case for a hypercar).

My game has mouth-breathers. Why does it have mouth-breathers? I specifically requested no mouth-breathers in my game. |

Silenus I'm not sure about the GT-R but the Cont SS has no back seat, only wut Bentley likes to call a "Luggage Retaining Bar", so no back seat. In a few minutes I'm going 2 post a comparo with the GT-R vs the Lexus LFA, this should be interesting.

I don't think I'd call what the GTR has much of a backseat either. The luggage retaining bar is the remaining vestiges of what was the Continental's backseat. Even the bodywork reflects what was once there and I'm sure if you felt particularly ornery towards your children you could force them to sit on the "unpadded" section of the SS. But that's what I was referring to. Both cars were intended originally to have backseats and even now both reflect this design decision.
