Still, the ping doesn't show despite admin rights most of the time. Anyone know anything else that might be the cause?

Edit: Further, when I can see the ping, it's only on about 10% of all servers, the rest still has a "-".

Same problem here, using WinXP and bought a Steam version of the game.
If you're running on XP under an admin user and this is still the case, it is most likely upstream from the game:Firewall, router, or ISP blocking something. Or you're playing via satellite from Antarctica and the browser is just giving up waiting for responses

Yeah I use a router, what doesn't make any sense is that at times I do have some pings show up but most of the time I don't. Never had any problems with any other online games I played with my current PC's setup either. This is the first game I seen were I have this issue. Not a serious life or death thing, but it is annoying.

I'm in the boat with those that have never had a single problem getting pings for servers in any game ever played, but on Windows XP running as administrator I get a small number of pings on browser launch and none when I refresh.

There have been several folks who have actually sniffed the wire to determine if the problem was upstream. According to them, the game simply isn't issuing ping requests after an initial attempt with a small set. I haven't done this myself, but if they are to be believed, the problem is probably poor coding by DICE. I don't find it hard to believe as the first iteration of the server browser was demostrably buggy and clearly nowhere in the top 5 priority list for the development team.

I have yet to see EA/DICE even acknowledge this particular variant of the ping problem exists, let alone suggest a fix for it.

Next patch is due next week it seems, might just fix the issue you are experiencing aswell.

Ignoring your bad use of logic, the in game ping actually shows latency, not ping. There is a link in one of the posts in this thread to an official statement of that being the case.
In essence, your ping is the one you see at the server list.

So far I've heard these solutions for the no pings on scoreboard.

Running retail game or non steam download:
Use account with administrator privelages
Right click - run as administrator the BFBC2Game.exe file in your program files Battlefield Bad Company 2 folder.

Running steam version:
Use account with administrator privelages
Right click - run as administrator the Steam.exe file in your program files/Steam folder.

I'm using the steam version and it worked for me.

After you are done running BC2, it is also probably wise to restart steam without admin. Whatever you do, don't disable UAC as that also disables manditory integrity control which leaves you wide open (all processes running as admin and no MIC sandboxing for IE, Chrome, etc.).
