"EA's Skate will take on Tony Hawk's Proving Ground to see who will rule the virtual skate park. But it doesn't have to be an either/or decision. In fact, these two games are so different, you could probably enjoy both without feeling a touch of déjà vu. If Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is the foosball of action sports titles, then skate is the air hockey table on the other side of the room. Both have their strengths and will attract a similar type of gamer, but they are two completely different experiences."

I thought the exact same thing when reading it. Fair enough, when Skate was announced, a comparison was inevitable, but they are two distinctly differant games.

I know i'll be picking up both games, and also will enjoy them both. I just hope this healthy competition has spurred Neversoft on to make a great addition to the series, instead of trying to imitate Skate to win back fans.

People are comparing these two games because they are the only two skating games avaible but who cares, you can play both games, there is no law saying you can play only one skating game per console....

There are billions shooting games or racing games but were not comparing them cause we dont care. We should do the same with skate and tony hawk.

Not necessarily, as far as i'm concerned it was something they were adding anyway, and it seems pretty damn in depth. It actually has GH2 tech, which gives extra points if cuts match the beats of a song, and extra points if a sponsors logo is prominently shown.

I just mean, i hope when i pick up THPG, it feels like a TH game, and not for Neversoft to bend over and think realism is the way forward.

You certainly can play both the games, but I won't. I've given Neversoft like last 8 years of my gaming dollars and I have become less impressed over time.

If I enjoyed the TH series at all I would pick it up but I've already sold back THP8 due to its lack of fun and I can't imagine that PG will be any different.

If you like the formally that the TH series has relied on year after year then it makes sense to get the next addition. I have been waiting for a game like skate to finally come along and now that I have a choice I'll make it very clear by how I spend my cash.

Right, Skate announced it first.
Most of everything known about Skate currently was announced before a word was spit out about THPG.

The Disney skateboarding game used the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater engine.
