12. When the host is hosting a race online, a-lot of times they exit if they are not winning and generally right before i cross the finish line it pauses and says connection lost...etc and i get no points, particularly annoying in longer races. Do they have some kind of recourse against these users, take away points or count as a loss on them or something?? its getting really annoying.

We see this happen a lot with GRID with some players. These players will retire from the race if they don't think they will win the race and take a lost on their record. This way they get to inflate there win\loss record and make it look like they have won a lot races.

If you retire from a race for any reason, it should count as a loss. The only time I will retire from a GRID race is if my car is damage to badly to control it.

PS3 Edition here and having the same issues.

Eau Rouge is undrivable almost in any car. I was SOOOO stoked to race on SPA. After watching the recent Belgian Grand Prix I couldn't wait to test my skill on Eau Rouge. Sigh-- Impossible.

Some of the other tracks where its heavy braking on a downhill straight has wicked bumps as well.

I tried using my Works Camaro on the ambush canyon race and no way... toooo bouncy. I'm gonna revert back to GT Prolouge for now. But I will be checking for updates.

Pretty much just reporting the same issues as everyone else.

Also a note to EA, The Veyron has an air-brake that is used at high speeds for stability under braking and also the rear wing does come out during normal driving. Check out Top Gear episodes for reference.

Hey All,

After watching the video/s, I realize that I did not understand the problem, and shoved at least 1 1/2 of my feet in my mouth.

What the hell you guys can't drive a car like that? What's the problem?

Seriously, now I know what you mean by bouncing, and I stand corrected.

360 version: I get bounching but only on certain tracks and only in certain spots where the road is bumpy. That said its still rather odd to be racing and see the AI cars move smoothly over the bumps while I go all sideways and sail into a wall.

The one thing I have noticed is that cars with the works added seem to handle far better then those that don't. It sorta makes sense in one respect but the difference is rather jarring to the point that it doesn't make a whole lotta sense. A fully tuned car sans the works is nigh impossible to handle sometimes. They fish tail and spin there tires at an alarming rate. I've literally had situations where I simply cannot get the power down to the ground at all and just spin and fish tail all over the place, and heven help you if you get a snake going. You'll never recover. Coversely a car with the works feels like butter. Sticks to the ground and is much easier to recover from mistakes with. Like I said it sorta makes sense but at this point its seems that adding the normal upgardes actually hurts your cars performance instead of making it better, and I typically pass through the normal upgrades as fast as possible to get to the works.

Apparently PS3 version has far less car damage effects than 360 / PC versions. Why would they have to dumb down PS3 version?

WTF??? Man I'd expect AT LEAST a headlight to get smashed...wow that sucks, especially considering the damage model isn't that great to start with. Burnout Paradise has an awesome damage model =]

I really hope EA are working on these problems.

I have been reading & experiencing so many of the "issues" I guess a lot of people are -
Bouncing - Camaro SS (so far only) - thot it was a tuning issue that I might have done
Not Moving - Viper (so far only)
Paint/Vinyls - When I paint my cars, seems like it just puts over whatever I have on last car - doesn't really change much at all - & when I start a race & see my car - not really what I painted (body is kinda correct - but painted hood different & it looks black ???) - Vinyls don't show up at all - so can't do anything with them (I have all my graphics set to high - like other nfs titles, you don't see some affects unless you have things set high (mainly neon in ug2, etc).
Winnings - where are the cars you "win" when you achieve certain levels?
Online - can't get online at all with this game - I have an account (obviously) & even set for game to prompt me & put it in again & again - I know I'm connected when I try & even tried different "methods" - signed into EADM, signed into ea.com (which I know should make me NOT connect - but whatever)
I spent 2 days tring to get this dang game to install - dl had a corrupt file (group4.cab) & didn't want to read in my sata drive (installed an ide & it worked)
So far - I'm very disappointed with install & support is a joke (all they know how to do is read their "script") - but as for the gameplay - I am not - it is fun & easy to get points (quickraces) to advance.

Yes, the bouncing sucks, and it is definitely one of the bugs. What I'm really frustrated with though is the fact that (I'm on Xbox 360) I can't choose how I want to change gear. This is ridiculous, since most people who play racing games, actually play other racing games. Personally, I use the right stick to change gear (up for up, down for down, logical right?) and I'm very used to it. The flagship racing game for Xbox is undoubtedly Forza, in which you can completely customise your controls. Even the last Need For Speed (Undercover) allowed me to have the configuration I wanted. So why doesn't this game?

Maybe I'd have a chance to get frustrated with the bouncing, if I wasn't so focused on the fact that someone, somewhere, has decided which buttons I would like to play with and subsequently I'm mashing the A and X buttons trying to find the right gear.

It's as bad as not being able to invert the Y-axis in games where you might want to, say, look up and down.

Basic stuff guys, please fix it. And the bouncing.

10. Many visual glitches that dont seem to affect gameplay too, but not sure why it made it out the door as a final product, cars floating and dropping to the track when you first enter a race, when the race is over the car just crashes into things or sometimes just dissapears.

Heh.. found a few more bugs on the PS3 version.

One related to the visual glitches :

Anyone noticed that atleast in Glendale (Club) and I think on a few other tracks, when you're waiting in the car for the race to start, there's some grass floating around?

And one major one. Someone in another thread commented on how his Z06 gets stuck at the startline. Well, I just tried to drive the "hot lap at Laguna Seca" invitational that's driven with a Z06 and the car just won't move. After I get controls, the car just slowly comes to a halt. The engine reacts to revving, the gears connect but it just won't move..

Some poor old qualityinspector is going to get fired over this game..

Don't ned nothing but sum Suspension & Shock Tuning (adjustment)

TUNE the car kid's

Ur an a*****e sir for giving stupid advice without experiencing the game first. It's pretty obvious u didn't play it because if you did u would know that no amount of tuning can resolve poorly modeled physics that make the game unplayable with performance cars. So please do your homework before giving advice.

God damn EA, please show some decency and fix this game as soon as possible. I hope someone gets a pay cut over this

cem_ea_id.IBOOMER wrote:Hey All,

So I have read the majority of the posts, and I understand all of your frustrations. I have the PC version, and I have the shakes as well.

Did any of you stop to consider that it is built into the game on purpose? Do you suppose that running the Nurburgring at 180+ mph would not induce suspension hop?

Every time that this happens to me, it pretty much goes away as soon as I let off the throttle.

Also for the record, you should try it in real life, I have a'97 Firebird T/A, and when I am going 145 mph down the freeway, there are areas where the car gets into a rhythm of bouncing up and down. YES PEOPLE that means there is physics involved. Also for the physics lesson of the day, WOOD melts.

I am not saying that what you all are experiencing isn't undeniably frustrating, what I am saying is try running the race a bit different, and see if that changes the experience.

NO, these issues don't make the game unplayable, they make the game more technical. I have never raced an NFS game that plays like this, and I have played ALL of them. I remember playing F-1 a few years back, and I could never get the hang of how to play it. After running this game through Tier 4 so far, I may go and pick F-1 back up, and see if I can give it another go, because of the things I have learned here.

PEACE

U are absolutely right about the bumps in real life that can make the car loose stability, but the issue with this in Shift is that it completely overshoots the laws of physics and what racing should be about. And i'm 99,9% sure it wasn't on purpose, it's just poor programming.

cem_ea_id.1981lpw wrote:I have not had the bouncy suspension yet because I have not tried out the top tiers yet. My problem is that no matter what i do I get massive oversteer so I have spent all of my money in career buying upgrades to try to solve the issue. I have come to realize there is no way to fix it with tuning and upgrades. I have every upgrade except works on my car, i tuned almost to MAX understeer to combat the oversteer, and even tuned down my turning radius. Nothing matters, while all this definitely improves the situation on about 50 percent of the track, the other 50 is spent flying all over the place, oversteering around bends that i clearly slowed down appropriately for. Even slow bends i oversteer like my tires are made of butter.

I REALLY hope they fix these control issues. I have played racing sims for a long long time now, and I cant recall being so disappointed in a release that has the potential to be A BLAST. I think the game is great. There are some decisions that were poorly made like the terrible livery editor, but the racing part of the game i love. I just cant get my car around the track.

do you brake while turning?
breaking while turning transfer all the energy into the front of the car. the front wheels can only so much one at a time.
try breaking early then cut into the apex.

T1no u r quite the professional race driver aren't u? Of course u r not supposed to brake heavy in the middle of the turn because u get understear or overstear (depending on brake distribution front-rear) but a slight touch of the break can help keep the car under control while accelerating. Watch some films of race drivers feet during racing and u will understand what i'm talking about.

Well, I give up; this junk's getting traded in tomorrow. I've given ample time for a patch, but the truth of the matter is that even if a patch comes out to fix the bouncing issues, the game still sucks. The physics models for many of the cars are BS, and that will most likely never change. Cars like the EVO X oversteer while understeering off the track, and the E46 M3 drifts no matter what you do and has no realistic level of grip. The drifting game modes are terrible as well, using a different and horrendously unrealistic physics model that feels totally unnatural and requires you to re-learn how to play the game. The cars behave totally different to how they do in the rest of the game, and not in the respect that drift cars are set up different than track cars are, but in the respect that they don't even behave like a car would, EVER. There is no normal sense of traction, the tires lose traction even from light steering inputs when you're just positioning the car before you want to initiate the drift... the list goes on and on. This game sucks. EA, Slightly Mad, either make an arcade game, or make a sim, but don't try to mix them; it doesn't work. If you're going to make a sim, then make it realistic on all fronts and do it right, don't bastardize it by making junk like this. NFS Shift = FAIL.
