see, you guys don't get it. shift does have better damage than GT5 BECAUSE GT5 IS NOT OUT. it's very easy for them to say things about something that doesn't exist. they were probably referring to GT5P, which does not have damage..which again makes their's automatically better. better, not good.

No, they (EA) specifically refer to doors coming off in GT5 and they wondered how that was allowed. That was shown in the recent GT5 video referred to by that article. GT5P does not have anything like such features, thus I don't believe that is what they were referring to at all. The rollcages in GT5 which allowed for the invasion of the traditional driver compartment is what EA was suprised at and that is definitely a GT5 feature.

all i can say is

I TOLD YOU SO! i told you they would pull the same stunts, the same marketing, the same bs, and then release the same half assed product. AGAIN.

to quote a wise canadian..."atoadaso. i f-ing atoadaso."

I don't see how this helps. This attitude only hurts our chances of getting a response on the topic.

Let's try to keep this on topic and as professional as possible while we push for a concrete answer to this problem.

I'm surprised that none of the reviews caught on to this. It would have definitely influence my decision on whether or not to buy this game. I feel ripped off.

I agree with you Derkader, I was tossing up between this and Dirt 2 on PS3. I played the Dirt 2 demo and loved it, but the Shift presentation blew me away. I love the blurring, blacking out etc, it seemed to up the driving experience...that was of course, until I bought the game and experience the damage (lack of) I love the game, don't get me wrong, but I think I would've chose Dirt 2 if I knew about this issue.

Let's hope to hear from EA in regards to this issue. I'd love to know the reason behind it.

Oooo...my car's not falling apart. I feel so ripped off.

That seems to be one of the most insignificant parts of this game. Just like I'm not buying GT5 because of the damage. I'm buying it because I like GT5P. I may, or may not, like it as much as Shift but I'm not going to complain about the lack of damage in any part where it's missing.

So damage isn't important to you... I fail to see how that makes it less important to me, or how it makes it any less important that this feature is missing from the game. I like my racing to be as immersive as possible and damage is apart of it. What if the blackout effect were missing instead? Or maybe if you couldn't use the g25 at all? To some people those inclusions are irrelevant, to some they are everything.

I am happy that the lack of damage modelling is unimportant to you, but I feel it is an integral part of racing, a part that the GT series (and Forza for the most part) has actually completely ignored up until now and has prevented me from buying into that series (or Forza) at all. I like full on damage modelling and it was claimed to be in the game so I don't see why I have to roll over and live with it just because you do.

That being said, I too am amazed no review site picked up on this... I would have thought with all the typical fanboy nitpicking over one version vs. the other this would have come up. This is beyond the typical "OMG TEH TEXTURES R BETTER" and "LOL THE COLORZ ARE BRITER!!" we usually hear about.

i guess at this point we just need some legit explanation to why damage deformation wasn't included in the game(ps3).
i think i did enough homework; i watch multiple developer interview videos and gameplay videos, expecting that deformation damage was featured in the game.
but they miss the part where they release it to 3 different platform; in this case the ps3 version is different.

yes im annoyed. and in a way ripped off O_o

This damage bug might be causing the bouncey suspension bug and it's causing the game physics on the ps3 to feel weird at times?

Either way I also feel ripped off that the PS3 has got this bug. I hope they fix it otherwise I might just trade the game in and wait for it to drop in price on the PC. Or wait for GT5 that doesn't have bugs like this and AI that are out to kill you!

Obviously your not getting the point. If all the platforms didn't have damage then it would be fine. But I paid full price not knowing that the PS3 version isn't what they advertised.

I know, right? When Ghosbusters came out they were all over the PS3 version for the missing textures and lower resolution, and eventually it got a patch to correct it. This should be the type of thing that gets immediate attention.

Came here to see if anyone else was noticing this. This sux. Perhaps a thread about this needs to be started on this forum?
http://forum.needforspeed.com/eaforum/forums/show/260.page

Do developers even read any of these? Where is the appropriate channel to report this issue to EA?

I really hope there's someone answering our damage issues... I love the game but this is really crap..
If I have known this before i have not bought the game, i'd go for dirt2 or something...
If there was a realistic racing game why could it not have deformation damage like GTA4, thats brilliant though.

If the ps3 version would have the same damage like the 360 it would be great, but now it's not that great at all.

I posted about the issue on the 1up.com review page for the game -- hopefully the media will take notice.

Planning to let kotaku know as well.

According to the techh reports the PS3 has a strange memory architecture where a grand total of 512meg is split in half essentially resulting in a 256meg machine. This limitation in contrast to the 360's full 512meg is probably what is being witnessed here with PS3 not having enough ram to store the additional damge models.

What worries me is this growing push of developing on PS3 first and then porting to 360. That simply reeks of developing for the lowest common denominator then porting to the higher end system and underutilising it's added capacity. The end result is a game equal on both platforms and no one has reason to complain as they are none the wiser.
