ok so whats wrong with lots of todays tricks?
wallies, nosebonks, wallrides, crails, crunts, shuvs out, firecrackers, forward flips and so much more. I can go on and on lots of tricks in S2 just don't look right throwing your board down, no complies, cavemans?
Just surprises me they don't focus on todays skateboarding.

in case it slipped your mind he did invent it [among an insane amount of others], and then popularise it, so its only natural for people to think of him first
Gonz did them first. In about 89' or 90'. Go to the Thrasher site and dig around. I think Jake Phelps mentioned it, or if you ask him, he may answer it, and the dude remembers everything about skating.
Gonz did a caveman darkslide, and it was only a picture...
Mullen was the first to ollie in, and get it on film...
Mullen also took it to levels that no one else has, including switch tre dark lips, darkslides to manual ect
how do you know he was first?

Yes it was a caveman, but it was on a handrail and only 3-4 years after anyone (re:Gonz himself) started skating handrails. Regardless, he was the first to do it and probably should get the credit. I remember in that same interview, he was doing casper slides as well. Straight innovator.
Remember these things too; that was 89'-90', so a picture was made out of film-no digital yet. Also, skaters didn't roll with photographers and filmers at the same time. Video cameras were expensive, huge, and not the standard yet, so it wouldn't be likely that he'd go out skating with more than a friend who shot photos.
Not that Mullen didn't add on by rolling and kickflipping into them, but first is first and that was Gonz as far as I know.

I'm not sure at all about the OG darkslider... but the above fact is so true. Younger skaters these days just have a natural parallel between skating and filming. The two are obviously so closely related now that it's important to force yourself to step back and look how far skating has come. Photos were the norm back then. Videos were a huge deal.
