Sorry I've been lurking here for a while, not posting. Seen a lot of people begging for Clary to get lowered, when in reality, he's been our most consistent offensive lineman. It's just when he fails once or twice a game everyone sees it, and he's easy to pick on.

And I've been guilty of ragging on him a lot on the Charger.com forums until I decided to watch closely at the O-line the past few weeks.

Don't be sorry. I actually like to see it.

I watch how the O-Line plays too. The Charger pass protection (other than a few plays) has been on point these past few weeks. I'm still down on their run blocking though, however it did look better this past week...especially on LT's 2 TD runs.

But the consistancy is still not there. On one play, they'll blow the defense off the LOS and get a good run (LT's Wildcat run for example). But the next play, it could look like it's their first time ever run blocking with the amount of penetration they'll allow into the backfield. This leads to LT's stats taking a pretty significant hit, and then people think he's washed up, then EA drops his ratings with no real justification.

Gregory is now our nickle CB over Cason, who has been benched to being the dime CB and backups if jammer or Cro go down.
Yeah I noticed that too. Gregory, instead of Cason, has been coming in on passing downs to add some physicality and athleticism to the defense. He's very quick and fast. He looks great coming off the edge on blitzes!

Ellison is the starting SS though. He's faster than EA gives him credit for. I'm pretty sure he's yet to get beat deep since he's taken over the starting role, which is EXTREMElY hard to do on Madden because he's freaking 75 SPD! I'm pretty sure that he'd easily win a foot race against all the D-Linemen that are rated at least 76 SPD!

Here is some proof for Wookie to send to the Madden rating guy.

Yeah I really like what Ron has been doing with the defense. Lots of Corner and Safety blitzes.

Seriously man, the speed he has is pathetic. I usually play safety, and now all my calls I make I make sure that I am playing Ellison instead of whichever one has the deep zone, otherwise, without my intervention he'll get burned if the ai controls him. I hope they give him a boost to at least 70, same with Gregory.

And I know this is probably beating a dead horse but does it seem the developers are so quick to screw the Chargers over but very quick to up the Broncos or Raiders?

Man you are right on. They are inconsistent as a whole. I'm going to copy and paste something I posted on the Charger forums. It's kind of long, but it's pretty much agreeing with what you said right here.

"LT is not getting any holes for him opened up at all. Our O-line sucks * at run blocking. Dielman is a shell of his old self (He got married, and so did Igor Olshansky... linemen shouldn't be allowed to marry) McNeil is consistent in pass blocking but horrible at run blocking. Hardwick is out, with Mrcrowski replacing him. M-ski is more physical than Hardwick just because of his pure size, but Hardwick is better at run blocking and calling out blocks pre-snap to pick up blitzes. Lous Vasquez is going to start his 3rd NFL game this week. And Clary, sadly, has been our best blocker these last two games. That is sad as hell that Clary has been the best at doing his job.

When LT was sitting out the last few games, Bennett nor Sproles could do anything on the ground. They were doing worse than LT. Atleast watching LT vs the Steelers can get us long time Charger fans excited. He is showing glimpses of his old self, like was reported all training camp. He was making tons of cuts vs the Raiders which were crazy, but then he got hurt. Now vs the Steelers, two plays stand out to me. One where he jumps before he gets the hand off, grabs the ball in mid air from Rivers hand, and cuts back to juke an unblocked James Harrison. He then out ran two defenders, cut in, and made it a 5 yard gain, while having a hurt ankle. We haven't seen that since 2006. The vision is amazing if you think about it. He saw the guy coming and started his cut before he even had the ball. Also, on the goal line. From the regular view he didn't do much it looks like, but when NBC showed the top view. LT made a hole and shot for it before it was even there. It was a power play to the right, but of course the crappy O-line didn't make a hole, so LT faked outside, juked inside, and dove for 4 yards, bringing us to the 6 yard line, we scored the next play. As much as I love Sproles, he would not and could not do the same thing. Him and Bennett kept getting stuffed for 1-2 yards if there was no hole. LT really does have a special ability as a running back, and I never really saw it so plainly as I do now watching what our running is like with, and without LT. Because I admit, I was starting to get on the start Sproles bench LT bandwagon.

So I need to defend LT a bit. Because people only look at stats, when you aren't a fan of a certain team. Kind of like Adrian Peterson, he is one hell of a runner, but his O-line is one hell of a blocking O-line too. AP barely ever does NOT have a hole. But his stats look very pretty. So people praise him as this beast. But you have to give his great O-line credit. I don't know which o-line is better, Denver or Minnesota, but they can both get an average running back and make them look pretty."

By the way, Hardwick is practicing this week. Also, could you explain to me why Brady and Merriman had the same injury last year, yet Brady goes down 1 point while Merriman goes down to 89 overall? Also, why is it that Brady has one good game against the Titans, and they immediately up his rating again, while Rivers has a good game every single week almost, yet they won't touch him, and keep him on par with players like Jay Cutler.

Also, it's good they finally upped Kaeding I think. If you were 1 yard past the 30, there was no way you could make a FG with Kaeding. Now I can make it from 31!

Yeah I play safety or LB most of the time. I can't start Ellison at SS though. He is too slow and gets burned all the time. So I have to leave it how they have it with Gregory at SS#1 and Ellison at SS#2. 75 SPD is way too low for him. He's young, athletic, and is way faster than they give him credit for. He's the same speed, or slower, than every LB on the Chargers roster. I'd be better off starting someone like Shawne Merriman at FS. He's 85 SPD! So they really think that Merriman is faster than Gregory, Ellison, and Eric Weddle for that matter?! LMAO!

BTW, as a side note:
There are 226 D-Linemen or Linebackers with 75 or higher speed (what Kevin Ellison is). 19 Left Ends, 28 Right Ends, 2 Defensive Tackles , 48 Left Outside Linebackers, 57 Middle Linebackers, and 72 Right Outside Linebackers!

Glad to hear that Hardwick is back in practice! I heard he was doing light running last week and was going to try to practice, and maybe even be ready to go Sunday against the G-Men.

As for the Merriman/Brady situation. There's no real logical explanation. I think it showed extreme bias in favor of Brady. Look at Brady's stats against teams with 1+ win (at the time the game was played) on the season. You'll understand that he hasn't exactly been lighting the world on fire with his play either! 9 of Brady's 15 TD's came against the Bucs and Titans, who were both winless at the time of the game.

As for kicking FG's. I have also noticed the increase in Kaeding's KPW! I can now make it from the 39 (56 yard FG)! It barely squeaks in, but if I get full power it's good!

Wow, I dont understand why they would release Chambers and not that scrub Buster Davis. Hopefully they need the cap money to sign Vjax to a new deal.

Yeah! A lot of people said it was bad route running by Oakland's WR's. But if you look, it was actually 2 AMAZING jams at the line by both Steve Gregory and Quentin Jammer!!!

I just sent this to Donny in a PM, by the way. Worded slightly different to explain how I came about this.

Dangerous Player: Darren Sproles, Chargers RB

November 4, 2009 1:00 PM

» NFC: D. Jackson (PHI) | S. Jackson (STL) | P. Harvin (MIN) | D. Williams (CAR)
» AFC: R. Brown (MIA) | D. Sproles (SD) | J. Cribbs (CLE) | C. Johnson (TEN)

Posted by ESPN.com’s Bill Williamson

A look at the players opposing teams hate to see with the ball in their hands in the open field.

Jason Bridge/US Presswire
Opponents have little hope of catching Chargers' running back Darren Sproles in open space.
Darren Sproles is simply a terror.

All 5-foot-6-inch, 181 pounds of him.

Yes, he may not look like much on a football field, but the diminutive Sproles can drop opponents to their knees and cause opposing coaches to go back to the drawing board.

Sproles is one of the best players in the open field in the NFL.

“We want to get Darren in space,” San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers said.”He’s pretty hard to stop in space.”

Nearly every game he plays, Sproles inflicts major damage in the open field. He is ultra fast, shifty and he jukes would-be tacklers like none other. Sproles can change directions in a flash and because of his size he is difficult to see when he has a lead blocker.

Sproles can beat opponents in so many ways. He is effective as a rusher, receiver and on kick and punt returns. He has touchdowns running, receiving and on a punt return this season. He also has a 66-yard kick return.

Just get Sproles the ball and enjoy the show.

There are some solid players in this division who are also difficult to stop. Denver receivers Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal are monsters with the ball in their hands for different reasons. The large, strong Marshall is nearly impossible to bring down.

Royal has defense-splitting speed. When healthy, Oakland running back Darren McFadden has potential to be an open-space terror, but Sproles is a special case.

Get Sproles in the open field, and you’re going to get six points.

I don't think it's news to anyone that Darren Sproles is one of the more "dangerous" players in the NFL. The guy is a little terror. His lightning quick moves (pun intended) are some of the best in the NFL. The guys quickness and shiftiness are definitely among the tops in the league! The guy's got the shakes that'll make you quake, for sure!

I even think he could be a little faster than 95 speed, maybe 96-97. He has great breakaway speed and when he's out in front, he's gone. I have yet to see him get caught from behind when running at full speed.

Exactly. He's actually gone up to 96 this year if I remember correctly, but then was dropped back to 95 again for some reason. I think I know the reason too. Donny doesn't know what he's doing!

Tommie Harris (DT, Chicago Bears) is just as fast as Kevin Ellison (SS, Chargers) in Donny's world!
