Morris Relieved of Duties
Posted 1 hour ago
A news conference has been scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET at One Buccaneer Place
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers relieved Head Coach Raheem Morris Monday after three seasons.
“We want to thank Coach Morris for all his hard work and dedication as head coach of the Buccaneers,” said Buccaneers Co-Chairman Joel Glazer.
“I have a lot of respect and appreciation for the passion Coach Morris gave to our football team, but this change is one we felt was necessary,” Buccaneers General Manager Mark Dominik said.
The team has scheduled a 3:00 p.m. news conference at One Buccaneer Place, which will be broadcast live on Buccaneers.com.

As someone else said, "the Bucs players haven't lost a coach, they lost a friend."
It's a shame Morris couldn't get more from the team this year. I think he's going to be a very good coach somewhere else. I'm amazed that Dominik has been given a pass.

it was a bad situation to begin with, he was originally suppose to be the D coordinator and was bumped to head coach. the expectation was low, even before Coach Rah came Tampa was having 4, 5 win season but when he Rah went 10 and 6 the bar was raised and now he's out the job. the main reason we drafted Freeman was bcuz of the relationship he and Rah had in Kansas, I wonder how thats gonna play out. if Freeman doesn't turn it around in a new offensive system he may be next to go

Im hoping and praying for Brian Billick. He knows offense, he likes Freeman and these Bucs a lot, and he has the clout to bring in solid coordinators.
All that Billick got out of guy like Boller, its scary to think what hed be able to do with Freeman.
Barber is done IMO. Morris was a big reason he was still around. Talib I give a 50/50 chance. Either way, CB and OLB are going to be the biggest needs. O-line is just as important, but I think theyll find at least one new starter in FA at either LG or RT.
Depending on who they bring in, Id expect a big turn around on offense and a decent stride on defense.

Couple of names I've heard floating around that haved interested me:
1. Rich Basacchia (I'm sure I've butchered the speling of his name). Former special teams coach for the Bucs. Outstanding teacher and strong disciplinarian. Knows the Bucs well.
2. Russ Grimm. Former OL for Washington (Hogs). Been an assistant in Pittsburgh and Arizona. His son Cody is our FS.
3. Marc Tressman. Former QB and OC for Denver. Head coaching experience in CFL. Good offensive mind.
Oh, and for the record, I'm very disappointed in the hand Coach Morris was dealt. I think he was put in a very crappy situation and did pretty well. He'll land on his feet and continue to be an outstanding coach in the NFL. Too bad he was screwed over by either Dominik or the Glaziers(whichever is making the personnel decisions).
Another name to think about is Rod Marinelli. Yes he was 0-16 in Detroit, but I think he robably learned a great deal from his experience as a head coach and he is well respected by players.

Not sure on the quality of coordinators Bissaccia could bring in.
Grimm is intriguing, but not sure what he offers from an Xs/Os stand point. Being a HOFer and a target of the Steelers before Tomlin is a nice endorsement.
Tressman is a nice under the radar guy.
I think the Bucs are going for a big name to help bring in the fans. The Glazers often keep it really quite as to who they are hiring and the only name I havent heard any rumor about seems to be Billick. The less you here about a candidate, the more likely it is with the Glazers.
I know they are desperately trying to sell tix and a big name and a splash FA signing or two is their best bet to drum up fan interest. Billick has been on record as really liking Freeman and he just did an interview on AM radio here in tampa and declined to talk about any job offers or interest. He also said the Bucs need to build up the O-line for Freeman and get him some speed on the outside.
Im really hoping its billick at this point after what he did with sub par QBs in Baltimore. He had crappy QBs and always had an offense in the top half of the league except the 2 years Fassel was coordinator.

I thought it was implied that the Bucs had to hire an entire coaching staff and that Basacchia would resume his position as special teams coach and not head coach if he was [re]hired by tampa or am I wrong and you guys are saying he is a candidate for head coach?

I liked what LeRoy Butler had to say about Mike Sherman. At this point I don't think it matters who the head coach is as long as they can bring in good assistants and be good teachers. AND the Glazers hacve to pony up and spend some money in free agency. I think our 1st round pick will either be CB or Blackmon. But we have a lot of holes to fill. Someone on the radio suggested making a run after Forte since Chicago will not franchise him. Wonder what his status is on the knee.
