I do not use Facebook. I use an iPhone to play. I am unable to play a player selected by either user name or email. I can send them an email with a link to download the application for their device but I am unable to add them to my friends list or start a game with them. I am totally limited to random players. This is ludicrous!

I cannot receive notifications when it is my turn. I have the paid version. My free version of Words with Friends always provide notifications. Scrabble has been the biggest disappointment and frustration. I have contacted tech support with EA and despite all their recommendations these problems persist. Tech support recommended I access this forum. Can anyone help me? I am not willing to join/play Scrabble via Facebook. I do appreciate any help you can offer. I do love playing Scrabble!!!

you need to sign in via the Origin account first (register a username with e-mail address).

I have signed in with an Origin and EA account with a registered user name and linked email address.

If you think I am stupid for asking for advice and suggestions on the advice or tech support, than I must consider your comments rude at best.

All I want to do is select another individual via user name or email to play. I can only invite another individual to download the Scrabble application but cannot create a game with them.

All suggestions would be appreciated. I love playing Scrabble!!!!

First, it would help to know which paid iPad app you are using?

Regarding your inability to create games with specific people, this thread may apply: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/7687232.page
I do not know if this game connectivity feature through Origin has yet been applied on the iPad HD app.:

Regarding notifications on an i-Pad, this thread may apply: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/8285248.page

Secondly, Jaker was in no way rude. and his suggestion was certainly one that needed to be verified.
You asked for suggestions, and his was one which is a common error people have using some of the Scrabble apps. It is kind of bizarre that you asked for suggestions and then took his in the way you apparently did.

We all love to play Scrabble, and those like Jaker and myself and others who help in this Support area of the forum while the EA people are gone for the weekend, do so simply as other friendly players.

I am just going by the game description on the iTunes site for Scrabble for iPad, but all it says is:
SO MANY WAYS TO PLAY!
• Challenge friends via Facebook and more
• Pass ‘N Play with up to 4 players
• Go head-to-head against a friend on an iPad or iPhone
• Play solo against computer opponents

whereas the iPhone version says:
•Connect and play via a username, email address, or send an invitation using your phone’s contact list
•Challenge and play against friends via Facebook
•Play against a random opponent with a single touch
•Pass ‘N Play with up to 4 players
•Go head-to-head via Local Network Play
•Take on challenging computer opponents, too!

He wasn't directing it at you. In a forum such as this we can append our signature when we reply. Since a line separated the two sentences it was probably just part of his signature.

Thank you Jaker023 for your suggestion to sign in via the Origin account. I have logged in and out to my origin account. This did not resolve the issue.

Thank you HAPe4me for the links but I was still not able to solve my problems. I am playing with an iPhone. I have version 1.15.66. I was on a 3Gs and had these problems. Tech support recommended to reset my phone and reload. Well my phone died and I did exactly that when I had to set up the new iPhone 4s. This did not solve the problem. I also tried downloading the free version but this did not resolve the issue. Yes iTunes says you can connect with friends via user name email. But all we can do is send invitations to download the application. We cannot send an invitation to initiate play after the application is loaded on the respective device.

The person I want to play with just got an iPad. She downloaded the application and neither of us can connect. We can send emails inviting each other to download the application but cannot initiate a game.

Goldilocks800 thank you for the explanation of Jaker023's comments. I have never participated in this forum and frankly I was taken aback by the statement "It's best to keep your mouth shut..." I did not realize the statement was part of a signature and not directed at me.

Hudra, I'm actually experiencing the exact same issue regarding the invitations going back and forth (between my Aunt and myself). Only difference is that she has an iPad and I'm on Android. But the problem is that I do not think she has setup an Origin Account yet.

Did the person you are trying to start a game against also register with an Origin Account and is signed in as well?

You should be able to search via "connect with friends" link on the iPhone for a specific username or e-mail (e-mail only when you want to invite someone to sign up with an Origin Account). For example, if you search for mine, you should see it.

Hope this helps.

Goldilocks! Thanks for figuring that out. I was baffled but now completely understand Hudra's reaction.

Hudra- I think the problem is on your friend's end with the iPad. I guess we need more clarification on the phrase

• Go head-to-head against a friend on an iPad or iPhone
in the documentation.

I see from other posts that the EA guy is in the house today and hopefully will clarify the statement. Sorry.

Jakers- LOL maybe an edit of the sig is in order LOL

well, I know that you can play on Origin via iPad against iPhone and Android devices (as I'm currently engaged in games in these scenarios right now).

Hi,

Unfortunately, the current iPad version of Scrabble needs a connection to Facebook in order to play online games.

We plan to add Origin and more within a new version of Scrabble for iPad in a near future. We're constantly working on improvements to Scrabble.

However, you can use the iPhone versions on your iPad and then you can use the Origin network:

Scrabble iPad: http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/scrabble-for-ipad/id363306776?mt=8
(Facebook network)

Scrabble iPhone: http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/scrabble/id284815117?mt=8
(Facebook and Origin networks)

Scrabble Free iPhone: http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/scrabble-free/id408492483?mt=8
(Facebook and Origin networks)

Let me know if it helps.

Best regards,
ScrabbleMTL

Jaker023 I was able to create a game with you! Thank you!!! You do not have to accept my invitation but accept my thanks because I have never been able to do this. Now I will use the advice given and very much appreciated to see if I can get my aunt on her iPad playing with me on my iPhone. THANK YOU!!!

anytime! I couldn't have fully resolved it without Goldilocks, HAPe4me, and ScrabbleMTL - that's what communities are for!
