Tokyo is the biggest city in the world. How could you make a city simulation without learning from the biggest city?
I would love SimCity 5 to take ideas designs from Asian Cities.
I will use Tokyo, Japan for my city examples.
Tokyo has a very large network of trains, trams, and subways with many different types. Bigger than New York City. One train line could start on the ground then because elevated rail, and then go underground. This is because of the different types of urban zones a train must travel in. Many Stations have transfers to other transports for the local and city level.

The road networks in Tokyo are very complex. The Expressways will be elevated between many high-rise buildings with local roads under them. They will go on huge bridges and even go underground where waterways are above.

Buses and Taxis.
Many depots are located by the train stations to transport passengers to local destinations.

City Centers
Tokyo has many city centers than other cities. Each city center is known for their own products and entertainment. If you want to buy fashion clothes you go to Shibuya. If you need a new computer you go to Akihabara. These centers will lure those people who have interest in those products.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shibuya,_Tokyo
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akihabara
I would want to build my city like a Japanese city than any thing else.
Other SimCity fans may like the Asia theme in SimCity 3000 and SimCity 4 had lots of Asian theme Mods.
Also some Asian players like to play SimCity with a Asian themes.

your missing out other themes..
Japan and Chinese themes are very similar. would be nice not just having a japanese theme, but china too.

Medievil themes:
having the ability to place down walls and castles of different types.
Roman themes:
The city of rome also has a unique feel, and would look amazing in a city builder.
venice style themes:
to be able to place a city over water, something similar to CXL but far more indepth.
having a city such as this ways heavy on ferry transportation and walk ways, and would look amazing too.
http://www.venice-italy-real-estate.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/Venice-Italy-Real-Estate.jpg
Tropical themes:
this would be for coastal areas like havign huts and walkways along beaches which can also go over water.
http://www.byron-bay-beaches.com/images/beach-huts-2.jpg
http://www.byron-bay-beaches.com/images/tropical-paradise-4.jpg
even down to a leisure theme set:
having a set for sims to relax an enjoy. rollercoaster theme parks. water parks. lakes with a themed setting. coastal walkways, like sea walls.
having any of these themes would be fun to have. i think i would find it irratating to be restricted to a japanese theme alone though. having one external theme would be annoying without a set of themes. the ultimate thing here is to be able to make a unique city everytime you play. Maxis have mentioned that your city will be given unique features everytime you play. this is great, but id like to have some choice as to how it looks without it automatically looking some way.

Talking of tilesets. CXL implemented plazas which filled in thoughs nasty gabs between rectangular and square shaped plots. I dont think maxis should copy CXL, but having a plaza tool like this would be awesome. either that or our cities will look un city like with grass between every building. cities dont all have this. new york in particular. Thats not to exclude decent terraforming tools for making canals, hills and generally raised areas like railway lines and motorways.
I definately agree about having set themes to choose from. as ive already mentioned. i'd hate it if maxis implemented our cities to form a unique look without having some ability to choose styles. its nice to be able to have a china town or medievil ruins within a city. edinburgh for example. Medevil/roman walls are often found within cities as ruins.

Well, the SimCity Digital Deluxe for only $80 per seat only offers the following:
BRITISH CITY SET
FRENCH CITY SET
GERMAN CITY SET
It would appear Asia doesn't count. AT ALL. I'm not sure I could tell the difference between these three European tile-sets other than a few specific landmarks such as Big Ben or Eiffel Tower. I suppose you have to squeeze out that extra $20 per seat somehow. I would have expected "American, European, Asian" tile-sets, but what the hell do I know? Not like EA/ Maxis pays any attention to what is going on in this forum anyway, other than what gets reported for a censor hammer.

Not all cities look like New York, London, Paris, and Berlin.
A lot of largest cities are in Asia.
Popular Asian cities are Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Seoul, New Delhi, Jakarta, Manila, and Singapore.

Hopefully, EA at least consider creating an add-on pack of Japanese design like Cities in Motion.

Cities in Motion add-on with Japanese wasn't a big deal.

I think a lot of the Maxis staff may not traveled the world to study cities abroad.
Because if some one be to another nation like in Asia. Then I someone on the staff sneaking some kind of Asian content.
They texture packs for London, Paris, Berlin, etc. is EA saying add these themes to sell SimCity in Europe much better.
If EA sold games in Asia. Then you will see other theme pack. I will pre-order the game right now! If I knew? I could make a Japanese theme city. But I will be fine with a Asian one. As long it share many Asian designs than just one.

If there was an extra Asian tileset, it would come after the game is released, in the form of a DLC. Just like the European ones included in the deluxe edition of the game.

Freedom is an illusion.
Some people actually came here just to hate. How pathetic can you get?
Don't like it? Don't buy it. Simple.

I don't see how these city theme work with online or DLCs?
Unless everyone has the same files and themes that can be unlocked when paying for them?

If you can look in on other cities what happens when you look at someone with special DLC items?
Do they not show up?

SimCity 2013 = Like throwing your time and money into a fire.. the up side being EA has your money so you know it is being wasted
I'm more annoyed losing a year on this forum in the stupid pursuit of a game worth the name SimCity than losing $60+ to EA
