NHL 13 GM Connected - Community Event Q&A

Please read the blog first: http://www.easports.com/nhl/news/article/gm-connected-revealed

And watch the trailer:

It seems a lot of people are very confused about this new mode. As it has now been revealed and we (community event attendees) are free to chat w/ everyone, please fire away w/ your questions and myself, KidShowTime, SCARFACE, and others will do our best to answer them. I also believe we'll have impressions up at some point as well.

SCHEDULING

I believe this will be asked frequently so I will explain it here best I can.

GM Connected uses the real NHL schedule. To play the games, the commissioner selects a "tick length," which can be anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks I believe. The length of this tick represents actual weeks of an NHL schedule. So when you enter your GM Connected, you will see all the games your NHL team has scheduled in real life as playable during that tick.

So for example, let's say I'm the Flyers, and the commissioner sets the league tick for 2 weeks. The first time I start my GM Connected as Philly, I will see all their games on the first two weeks of the schedule, let's say October 11-25.

THU OCT 11, 2012 BRUINS FLYERS 7:00 PM
SAT OCT 13, 2012 FLYERS ISLANDERS 7:00 PM
THU OCT 18, 2012 PENGUINS FLYERS 7:00 PM
SAT OCT 20, 2012 JETS FLYERS 7:00 PM
THU OCT 25, 2012 FLYERS CANADIENS 7:30 PM

Now the game will show whether these teams are human or AI controlled, and I can play them in any order. So if the GM of the Penguins is on but the Bruins guy isn't, I can still play my game against the Penguins even though it isn't "next" on the schedule.

The length of time for advancing the tick will be informal and vary league by league. So let's say your league decides that you will advance your schedule every REAL 5 days. So you have 5 days to play all your league games and once the commish advances, any unplayed games will be simmed. The schedule will then change to October 26-November 9, and you will have all your team's games from those two weeks available to play in the next five days, and so on.

Answers to a few common questions:

1. Full custom sliders are not available in GM Connected; however, you can choose any difficulty or game style. So you can play Casual / Rookie all the way to Hardcore / Superstar, and any combination in-between.

2. When you are playing OTP, you position lock, not player lock. So you would be playing as four forwards, three d-men, or two goalies. This confirms 6v6 max, for anyone who was expecting 20v20 or something.

3. Local co-op (a guest on Xbox Live aka someone sitting next to you) cannot play your online games with you. This is something they are considering for future iterations.

I assume I can be the Commissioner of my league and still play on a team with my friends at the same time? Not just one or the other.

Yes, the commissioner is the one who creates the league and can (maybe even has to?) be a GM of a team. He can then allow human players to join his team and play his NHL scheduled games as OTP games with him if he wants, as can any GM.

Who accepts trades? Commissioner or AI?

AI GMs will accept and propose trades using the new overhauled trade logic and "GM Brain," as discussed in the blog; however, the human Commissioner has the final say and must approve all trades, free agent signings, waiver claims, etc. It is honestly a large role so he must be committed to the league.

How does match making work?

Do we have to add another teams GM and set up a time and or challenge in order to play the game?

Is there a lobby? so we can see other active team's that are online that we can match up against?

Is there a dressing room like EASHL where we can all pick position and search for a game with EASE instead of it having to be difficult?

Can you play against any team's AI when they are not online? or can you disable you're team and make it so you can only play against other user teams?

*EDIT* I understand and read the schedule , and that seem's alright, but still doesn't answer how match making work's? so my questions above still stand

Is there anything built into the mode to deal with a disconnect. Most 6v6 leagues have rules in place that outline the procedures in the event of a player dropping, is there a mutual quit option or can the commish reset a game?

Can the commish setup a custom schedule each week so that if you have hypothetical a 12 team OTP league, that you're playing the human teams far more often and just simming the AI? Edit: Just read the scheduling section so this is obviously not possible, bummer.

Can you customize sliders?

Can you alter the rules so that regular season is 5 v 5 in overtime so that the RW doesn't have to sit out? What about turning injuries off?

Is there a way to limit the online Be a GM to only the teams that are human teams? It would be cool to set a salary cap and do a fantasy draft where say 12 teams are picking out of the wealth of NHL talent. Edit: Read scheduling section, not possible I'm assuming. Thanks.

How does the free agent process work if multiple humans are bidding on a player?

I was mainly concerned about scheduling and what a tick meant, the 1st post cleared most of that up. Here are some others.

1. Is there any position such as "co-commish", "assistant-commish", "admin", etc that another person can be assigned to be to help out the commish?

2. Custom Schedules? Always a full 82 game season or can it be made shorter?

3. How does the Connected messaging system work as it seems to be independent of PSN/XBL messaging.

4. Sliders, rules, skill, etc, can these be set for the league or is there one default setting all leagues must use.

5. How are the injuries? How frequent? Is it like Be a GM in NHL 12, will it be possible that week 1 of my league Ryan Getzlaf lets say suffers a career ending injury or long term injury and is out for the season?

6. Is there a penalty for quitting (disconnecting) in a game vs the computer? I know in NCAA's Online Dynasty it shows how many times a game was started, this enables leagues to implement a 2 quit and out rule or something to prevent quitting. Bottom line, like in NCAA will we know how many times a game was started, this is huge.

Also, more pictures showing all the different screens in the mode or a video that navigates through all the menus and aspects of the mode would tell us more than words can, why arent we seeing this?

Thanks.

Can a player play on more than one team or are the tied to a specific team throughout the year?

For instance, I have a buddy over who want's to help me play a game (2 vs AI or 2 vs 2), can I quickly add him? Is he bound to my team now?

Do we have to add another teams GM and set up a time and or challenge in order to play the game?

Well, presumably you'd have to set up a time but when you are both online, you simply send them a challenge / invite.

Is there a lobby? so we can see other active team's that are online that we can match up against?

You will be able to see what other teams are online, but you have to have a scheduled game against them to play. There were only 9 of us at the event and we all took our own teams as GMs; I am not sure how all the OTP players get into the same game but presumably it will be like the EASHL dressing room or something similar, but this is a great question.

Is there a dressing room like EASHL where we can all pick position and search for a game with EASE instead of it having to be difficult?

There will not be a search feature. You see what human controlled team is online and has a scheduled game against you in your tick of schedule, and you play them in a traditional versus / invite head to head sense.

Can you play against any team's AI when they are not online? or can you disable you're team and make it so you can only play against other user teams?

I believe this is a setting / option for the league as a whole or GM by GM. I think it'd be silly if other humans could play your AI without your permission.

Leaving work now and will try to answer more in a bit.

When assuming a player's role, are we simply position-locked or player-locked (like BaP)?

Jumping on the Penguins bandwagon is like rooting for the house at a casino.
