I let my BF2 install DX9 so don't worry about that.
Which part did you forget to run as an admin? Most of the time the program wants to run as admin itself without forcing it to so that hopefully isn't the issue.
For Windows 7 64bit the registry keys are found:
If you are still having issues I'd recommend removing again and re-installing only BF2, don't install BF2:SF or any patches and test that to see if it plays. If that does work then try patching to version 1.41 and test that, then install SF and re-patch to 1.41 and test that and then finally patch to 1.5 and test again.
What are your exact PC specs? As it sounds like you are running on a very similar setup to me.

Well its a bit more powerful than mine...
But as a few things to try, disable SLI to rule that out, either through the control panel or physically removing the 2 extra cards.
The Raid setup should not effect it as Windows 7 would just see it as a fast drive 300gb drive.

OK, someone may have already had this problem, but here it is anyway. I got BF2 installed after using a backdoor with Admin rights on all the individual installers and patches. Everything went without a hitch until I actually started playing. It runs for 10 to 30 minutes or so then crashes completely out. Are they going to patch this anytime soon, or am I just SOL?

Hey FatalDiVide,
Just to make sure I'm understanding you right, you are saying that you logged on as a standard user but used a hack to run the BF2 as an admin to get it to install?
If that is right then I'm sure that will probably be the reason you are getting the crashes, you must log on as a full admin to install the game. I recommend you uninstall and re-install BF2 following the instructions I have posted on page 2 while logged on as a user with full admin rights.
Can you also please post your system specs as well.

Hey thanks for the instructions back on page 2, MTaylor! They allowed me to get BF2/SF up and working on Win7 x64 with no issues. Total PITA to do, but that's not your fault!

Well I just looked at MTaylor's instructions, and realized that I inadvertantly did almost exactly the same procedure. I did however screw up the patching process and i think that is where my problems lie.
Good work MTaylor.
My specs:
-Win 7 Pro x64
-AMD Athlon FX 64 6000+
-4GB OCZ Rev. 2 DDR2
-SATA HDD(no RAID)
-Dual BMG NVIDIA 7800 in SLI

I have discovered that unter W7 x64 at least the BF2 complete collection does not store the license key correctly in the registry.
Please take a look at http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/330550.page#3215438

I doubt that my fix will get BF2 working online for you as you can play the game without it crashing. If you can I'd try creating a LAN based multiplayer game without connecting to the internet to see if that works, you could use the dedicated server app that comes with BF2 to create a server on your PC, then try connecting from within BF2. If you have more than 1 PC then run the server on 1 and BF2 on another.
If all else fails you could try re-installing but I don't think it will make a difference for you.

Hey guys...Seems I am having a similar problem, but I can't even play a game. When ever I try to login, it seems it's connecting then crashes. When I say login, I mean as soon as I launch BF2, click multiplayer/online, and login with my user name/password. I have tried multiple times to reinstall, and I am on a new install of windows 7 premium. I get no errors when installing, except for the voip( it hangs and I have to exit, but then it still finishes the install). Any ideas?I am trying tyler's now, but just incase any ideas? TY

Hey Noisuf, glad that my instructions got it working for you! I'm guessing it's the InstallShield folder causing issues again, if the game removed that folder during install then we wouldn't really have this problem!
I was playing online last night for about an hour or 2, never even stuttered! Loving the game again with widescreen support in 1920x1080 res, so beautiful!
23000 views?! Never thought this post would be so popular! Lol, biggest non-EA pinned thread !
Great to see the Euro Forces maps getting included in multiplayer now that everyone can get them, just a shame I paid for them originally!
Anyways, if anyone else needs any help just reply to this thread and I'll see what I can do!

How did u get 1080 res?I can only go up to like 1200x**** ......Im on HDMI with a 4890 and a 50" TV...I can do other games but not this one.
Tbh, I couldn't find the install shield folder when I was following your instructions. I don't know what I did different, but it did work...Removing all the registry, etc etc..It might of just been punk buster though tbh..I never did update it before until reading your advice...Anyways, still thanks!

Noisuf-
After installing patch 1.5 I had all the widescreen resolutions my monitor supports and as I has a 22" Dell S2209W monitor that supports 1920x1080 it was the last resolution available to me.
What HD resolution does your TV support? Is it one of the first HD TVs that were made a few years ago that was HD Ready as in 720p as that would give you a 1280x720 resolution as a maximum. If not then all I can suggest is update your graphics driver, make sure your TV is connected through either VGA, DVI, HDMI or DisplayPort to make sure that you can get the higher resolutions.
All I need now is 5.1 surround sound (If BF2 supports it lol) so I can have HD and surround sound BF2 gaming, think a better TV and surround sound for my media center is first though, still using a 28" CRT TV on my Media Center and xbox, need a HD TV lol.
