Kind of feel sad for this one, though. Some people just can't take the learning experience that being wrong offers, and rage instead. I'll just keep correcting the nonsense, as we all should.

battlefield.ma2x wrote:This is what worked for me. This probably just another spin of the original post but hopefully it might be useful to someone trying to get on-line.
After reading this thread (thanks to Demon), I've de-installed BC2 and removed left-over directories. Then did the install again choosing disk authentication and skipping PB install (not sure why I decided to do so). Once done, I've clicked on the updater.exe and after lengthy download I finally had the game installed and patched.
After all the installation staff, I went into multi-player section and I was actually able to see the server list for the 1st time since I bought the game. I couldn't connect to any of PB2 enabled servers but I was able to join to a non-PB server and actually play the game. I've played already a few times - so it seems to work consistently.
Now once I got tired of hunting for non-PB servers I've decided to download PB setup exe from evenplay site and install the most recent PB on my machine (as game's main menu scrolling message suggested). Well, that was a big mistake - ^&*&^*% - another couple of hours wasted.
After PB was installed, I started the game and went into multi-player section and guess what - back to square one! No server list! $%@#$
To be on the safe side, I've actually created a copy of BC2 install directory so I don't have to do full re-install in case something goes wrong.
Well, it turns out it was a good idea. I've renamed current BC2 directory with PB patch into BC2_to_be removed and copied backup directory in-place. Went into Windows Task Manager/Process list and killed running PB instances. Started the game, it went though patching once again since it was the pristine install. Once it was done, I went into multi-player section and I was able to see server list once again.
Well done PunkBuster <dripping sarcasm>! So I'm happy for now I can at least get on some of the servers and play a bit but it's definitely a major release $%^& up from EA/PB considering you hand them over $60 for that.
And it looks like I still have to do another re-install since I can't find the way to de-install PB without removing BC2 along with it.
I actually just started getting punkbuster disconnects on Friday night. It was really wierd too, because I had a heck of a time getting it to run online at first, but since I started getting updates it's been no troubles found FTW. I did a complete uninstall/reinstall, pain in the rear, and got an update I wasn't getting before (WTF?).
I went to the file on the disc for punkbuster (it's red and blue) and right clicked it then selected the update option from the list. Igot a dl, accept, yada yada. I then went back into the game, and the same punkbuster heartbeat 0.0 seconds error kept occuring, and and I was getting kicked. Could not play a complete game, was frustrating as all gosh darned. For the heck of it, I restarted my PC, and it ran fine...(WTF?) . It hasn't happened so far for a couple of nights now, can finish games, all is well again.
*Edit - Still no more of this as of 4/5 (crosses fingers)

The thing that worked for me is in my first post. Complete uninstall/reinstall... COMPLETE! DIG OUT THOSE LEFTOVER FILES! Then with firewall disabled do a complete reinstall, using the "run from disc", then update everything...pb, game, right clicking and run as admin each time. If you don't get a big download update, it didn't work. If you have the downloaded version, see page 5 of this thread.
Other things to try are port forwarding and redownloading. Sorry, that's all I got. There are many problems with the game, getting the updater to work properly solved mine. Good Luck!

When I had this right after installing all I had to do was delete the PB folder in your bfbc2 folder. Then download it again from http://www.evenbalance.com
Updating PB didnt fix it I had to delete the PB folder and install PB again. See if that helps?
Make sure PB isnt running in task manager first.

Can't get online? If you didn't get a large update download when you installed it, This may be your problem, possible fix here, Won't help lag/disconnect issues.

Quoting Demon on this one but maybe try Uninstalling then reinstalling without your firewall or anti virus on and update your punkbuster after u have downloaded the update?

Quoted the wrong one, this is for silent. If you are noticing the issues during different times that could be the connection to your ISP. What type of connection do you have? Is it DSL or Cable? Do you live in a very highly populated area, or a college?
