I recently noticed that Origin causes constant HDD activity. I have no idea why this happens and I'd like to get an explanation why. I don't understand why it has to do this constantly. As far as I understand it's SQLite data storage.

https_drh.img.digitalriver.com_0.localstorage and https_drh.img.digitalriver.com_0.localstorage-journal are constantly being rewritten. This causes HDD led flash constantly and since the disk is SSD, I'd prefer it not to get constantly trashed.

Making https_drh.img.digitalriver.com_0.localstorage and https_drh.img.digitalriver.com_0.localstorage-journal read only will instantly fix this issue and everything seems to work just fine after doing that.

OS:
Windows 8 Pro x64
AV:
Avast 8 IS

It doesn't feel like this is normal. I think it started after the latest Origin update.

He's not sharing an experience. He's reporting a massive, destabilizing bug in your software. It also affects my machine. Origin currently prevents my computer from sleeping and constantly writes to my disk, presumably impacting its longevity. Instead of hiding behind a smoke-screen of Orwelling nonsense (ooh, my disk will die sooner, what an experience!), you could acknowledge the bug and take steps to resolve it. But as ever, that does not appear to be an EA policy.

Back in reality, I cannot have Origin running at all, and thus cannot access any Origin games. This profoundly affects the likelihood of me ever purchasing an Origin game again, but hey, what does EA care. More importantly, no one else should be running Origin either, because any program that constantly writes to your system disk is very, very suspicious.

EA --- the company that gives you experiences!

Thank you. Now we're getting somewhere. On my machine, this behavior occurs both with the latest release build and with the current beta build. Or at least, it still happens if you roll Origin from the latest beta back to stable. I could try uninstalling Origin entirely and then reinstalling the stable build from scratch, if that would be helpful.

In other words, yes it occurs with build 9.3.1.4464 - 232932, and it continues to occur if you roll back to build 9.2.1.4399 - 227642.

Disk accessing starts almost immediately after loading the program. Looks to be little 100kb writes, roughly every second. Unfortunately I don't have any trace software installed to see to what, exactly, it's writing.

And here's where it gets really creepy.

It appears that if you run Origin in 'offline' mode, it no longer continually writes to the disk. But the second you go back into online mode, Origin immediately starts writing to disk again.

Watcha up to, EA ?

I have had this happen just once. Restarted Origin and it stopped, hasn't reoccured.

No idea what caused it.

Ive got the same problem. Origin creates https_drh.img.digitalriver.com_0.localstorage-journal file and deletes it in a second and it goes constantly.

Hi SundayMan,

Thanks for your post.

Please update Origin to the latest version 9.3.5.4613- 237971.

Click "Origin" --> "Application Settings..." --> "GENERAL" Tab --> select "Update to the beta version if available" --> "Done", then restart Origin.
