You mean .. back in the PS2 days when FIFA was looked on as an arcadey mess? But let's take PES as an example - because PES, until this year, has always had very assisted passing. The thing is, with PES's assisted passing, the passing DOES have error on it, especially with lesser players and more difficult passes. PES has always had something similar to the contextual element error that FIFA 11's passing now has.

It has very little to do with the fact it is assisted, you can have assisted passing with realistic error, but FIFA 10 (and 11 in its current state to me, as someone who has played it), still does not have enough realistic error to make it fair.

With the much improved user control and player response times on defense it will be much easier to play off the ball defense and easily intercept those passes you showed in the video. Intercepting passes was extremely difficult in FIFA 10 which is why ping-pong passing was such an issue because it was basically impossible to stop. But with the improved player control on defense in FIFA 11 intercepting passes will be much easier and stopping ping pong passing won't be as difficult.

I originally thought Pro-passing was a bad idea but looking at that video it doesn't look too bad. I think EA should leave it as it is. If they make pro passing have too large of an effect then the game will become too difficult in terms of attack.

In my opinion the guys playing defense in the video should learn how to anticipate and defend. If I were playing I would have easily intercepted those passes because they were so predictable. Instead of complaining that the passes should be more off target, learn to defend better.

Well, I wasn't playing in any of the videos so I can't really be criticised for that - but I think you're a tad optimistic. Afterall, there is a fair list of people who support this who have actually played the game (like myself) and think it's still not right. Wait 'til you've played the demo - see if you change your mind. I do appreciate your lengthy response though.

Agreed with the OP. It must be harder to pass to make the game realistic and not noobish.
Signed.

I didn't see this post before -

Just face it, they only care about making money. Gary Paterson has shown time and time again that he says one thing in marketing videos but then does something completely different to appease the "casual gamer".

I probably won't be buying FIFA this year, unless I see the bugs in manual controls have been fixed on the demo. PES is looking like the simulation option this year and I suspect next year it will leap ahead of FIFA again, and EA will only have themselves to blame.

Maybe you're right - but we should find out. They've implemented a live patching system - so they CAN change this without a huge cost (like that off patching through Microsoft/Sony's certification processes). If it becomes clear the community wants this - and I hope the community will show that to be the case - then they'll either prove your point, or we may just get what we want.

They should fix the high pressure defending too, it is impossible to play against high pressure without these kind of passing. So I say they should just leave it for now.

It's pretty clear that Pro Passing is almost insignificant. Signed.

The ability to make pixel-perfect first-time passes at 180 degrees is unrealistic and too accommodating to thoughtless distribution.

Pressure is one of the problems that has been addressed by the Fifa team. How well it's been addressed will be dependent on the person who's playing it. Everyone seems to have a varying degree of opinion on the subject (very much like this one).

Completely agree with the OP Pro passing is no where near as effective at doing what it should be doing.

i switched over to full manual, but i agree. i hate playing 12 yr olds online who cry and are little bitches when i score but do some * long * celebration when they ping pong pass and score a tap in when my defenders are all over the place...

Yeah cos in real football players can just overhit and underhit passes with no noticable difference in the result? In real football we see players stretching and passing from crazy angles yet the result is always a perfect accurate pass to a teamate?

I dont know what football u play but i there from what I have played and watched I dont see what happens in Fifa happen in real life that often.

Well written dude!

If EA can't see what the problem is from that vid then we've got no hope.

I think the outcome of this campaign will tell us exactly what direction EA are really wanting to take. At least we can stop putting all our time and effort into improving this game if our ideas and suggestions are only put in as token, watered down additions to the franchise.
