Here is a list of the minimum requirements to gain Specialities in Fifa 11. However, if you're searching for a specialities guide for Fifa 12, you CAN use this information, the only difference is for the Tactician Speciality because of the change from Tactical Awareness to Interceptions. I'll mention this in the Tactician description anyway.

POACHER

Player's Attack and Defence Work Rates CANNOT BOTH be set to High. Any other combination is fine.

You also need Finishing 85 and Heading 75.

Players cannot have Poacher and Engine together as the Work Rates are at odds with one another.

You must have at least one of Poacher or Clinical Finishing to count towards Complete Forward.

SPEEDSTER

Acceleration and Sprint Speed must TOTAL at least 180. This could mean a 90/90 split, or even a 99/81 split either way.

AERIAL THREAT

For players 6'2 and under; Heading 90, then get either Jumping or Strength to 85.

For players 6'3 and 6'4 in height; Heading 90.

For players 6'5 and over; Heading 75.

DRIBBLER

When either editing a real-life player with 5* Skill Moves, or giving a Creation Centre player 5* Skill Moves; he will also need Dribbling 86.

When either editing a real-life player with between 1* and 4* star Skill Moves, or giving a Creation Centre player between 1* and 4* Skill Moves; he will also need Dribbling 86 and Balance 75.

When creating a new player in-game, there are two methods of getting this speciality.

Dribbling 86 Balance 75. This will give him 4* Skill Moves and the Dribbler Speciality.

Dribbling 86 Agility 76. This will give him 5* Skill Moves and the Dribbler speciality.

Note that a player created in-game can get a maximum of a 4* Skill Moves from putting his Dribbling stat high, getting his Agility up to 76 boosts his rating from 4* Skill Moves up to 5* Skill Moves.

Real-life players' Skill Moves are preset and cannot be changed, and you can assign a Creation Centre players' Skill Moves rating yourself. In the cases of these players, Agility has no effect towards him getting Dribbler.

PLAYMAKER

Player MUST have at least one of CDM, CM, or CAM listed as one of the positions he can play in his Player Bio. It doesn't have to be his primary position though.

He also needs Short Passing 86, Vision 86 and Long Pass 73.

Playmaker is a CRITICAL speciality to count towards Complete Midfielder.

ENGINE

Players' Work Rates MUST be set to High for both Attack and Defence.

He also needs Stamina 86.

Players cannot have Poacher and Engine together as the Work Rate requirements are at odds with each other.

DISTANCE SHOOTER

Shot Power and Long Shots must TOTAL 174. This could be an 87/87 split, or even a 99/75 split either way.

CROSSER

Crossing 86, Curve 80.

FK SPECIALIST

Free Kicks 86, then get either Curve or Shot Power to 85.

TACKLING

Standing Tackle 86, Sliding Tackle 85.

Tackling is a CRITICAL speciality to count towards Complete Defender.

TACTICIAN

Fifa 11: Tactical Awareness 86, Reactions 80.

Fifa 12: Interceptions 86, Reactions 80.

Tactician is a CRITICAL speciality to count towards Complete Defender.

ACROBAT

There are two ways to get this speciality.

Agility 90 on its own, or
Agility 86, Reactions 80.

STRENGTH

For players 181 lbs and under; you need Strength 90.

For players 183 lbs and over; you need Strength 86.

CLINICAL FINISHER

Finishing 86, Long Shots 80.

COMPLETE DEFENDER

A minimum of 3 Specialities that complement a Defender. You MUST have TACKLING and TACTICIAN, plus at least one of these; Aerial Threat, Acrobat, Strength.

COMPLETE MIDFIELDER

A minimum of 3 Specialities that complement a Midfielder. You MUST have PLAYMAKER, plus at least two of these; Dribbler, Engine, Distance Shooter, Crosser, FK Specialist, Tackling, Clinical Finishing.

COMPLETE FORWARD

A minimum of 3 Specialities that complement a Forward. None are critical on their own, but two stand out as if you have neither you'll not get the speciality, you must have at least one of them. I'll break them into 2 groups.

IMPORTANT SPECIALITIES; Poacher, Clinical Finishing.

STANDARD SPECIALITIES; Speedster, Aerial Threat, Dribbler, Strength.

Using these groups, you will get Complete Forward by obtaining ONE Important Speciality plus at least TWO Standard Specialities, or BOTH Important Specialities plus at least ONE Standard Speciality.

Great post - I have been looking for something like this for a while. Maybe try and present it a little clearer?

Thanks a lot,it realy helps.
But one question,if the Playmaker speciality only works for CAM's and CDM's,then how come Messi has it as a RW (I assume he has it since he as Complete Midfielder'which requiers Playmaker like you said).Unless Messi is diffrent then others.

Sorry about the layout. I have a tendency to just throw the information up on screen.

My guess is Messi and others are exempt from the CAM/CDM rule because although it's not their primary position, it is listed as one of the positions they can play. When you're creating a player yourself, unless I'm missing something, you can't assign extra positions, just one primary position.

As I suspected, Messi's Player Information Screen in Team Management lists his positions as RW/RF/ST/CAM with RW as his default position and the other 3 are (secondary positions???).
Also, having tested other players that have CM listed but not CAM or CDM - when I adjusted their stats they also got Playmaker.
It seems that I need to amend the Playmaker Speciality requirements to:

Playmaker: Player can have any default position but MUST have CDM, CM or CAM as one of the secondary positions (seen on the Player Information Screen in Team Management). 86 Short Passing, 86 Vision and 73 Long Passing. NEEDED for Complete Midfielder.

Thanks, glad to hear it helps. I keep having trouble nailing down my explanation for Playmaker though. I've just re-read my last post and realised an error I've made.

Playmaker additional info - So long as CDM, CM or CAM are one of the positions listed for the player in his Player Info he can achieve Playmaker (if his Short/Long Passing and Vision requirements are also met of course). It doesn't matter if it's his main position or a secondary one, so long as it's listed.

All other specialities are without mistakes as far as I can see. But I will double check.

Great post, 1 more question:
Does the player gain any abilities from these specialties?
it would be unfair if someone only had 85 finishing and 79 long shots which means they don't have clinical finisher.

I don't actually know. I think it's just recognition of the stats being high in those categories. I doubt you'd feel much difference between two players, one who narrowly fails and one who only just succeeds to be credited with a speciality.

Traits on the other hand e.g Power Header or FK, Swerve Pass, Fancy Flicks etc... I don't think they affect the numbered stats but they do have a noticeable effect on the player.

I think strength starts a little earlier than 90, I think its around 85, but 90 is too high, all you have to do is search strength trait in the transfer window.

But most of it seems pretty good

It just means you have alot of the defensive specialties, there is no bonus other than knowing you are a good player

I'm glad I posted, I was right not to be too confident. I took your advice and checked the transfer market for players and searched by specialty. Strength needs work, so does FK Specialist, Aerial Threat and Dribbler. The rest seem to be OK now. Already corrected Playmaker.

Thanks everyone.

Okay, Strength. I was half right. You do need 90 for Strength to get the speciality, but only if your player weighs 181lbs or less. For players weighing 183lbs or more, you only need 86 Strength.

Aerial Threat. 6'5-6'7 players need only 75 for Heading. 6'3-6'4 need 90 for Heading. 6'2 and smaller need 90 Heading and 85 Jump.

Dribbling. All players need 86 Dribbling no matter what. Players with 5 star skill moves need Dribbling 86 only. Players with 1-4 skill moves need 86 Dribbling and 75 Balance. The confusion with Agility was because when creating a player offline, upping Agility can put a player up from 4 to 5 skill move ability.

FK Specialist. All players need 86 FK. For the curler specialists, they need 85 Curve. For the power specialists, you need 85 Shot Power. Either one of these will get you the speciality.

All players in the transfer market now conform to these changes.
